Default looking for some adivce

Hi all, I am 21 and about 3mths ago I finished my pre-apprenticeship training for Concrete/Cement masonry. I figured I could try to make a living in Michigan, but bleh that's not going to happen. I talked to the union coordinator and he's good friends my former instructor so hopefully that helps me out.

the problem is I don't have much capital so I figured I would ask you guys/gals about how much do you think one would need saved up to sustain themselves for about 1-2mths(I am sure I can get work pretty quickly, but I always like to plan for the worst).

I can live in a dingy apartment for a while and/or eat canned foods all day, everyday in order to cut costs at first, because I know it'll be temporary.

Thanks in advance,
Michael

Default Blue collar in the city...

Hey there! I guess the answer to your question depends on where you want to live. Downtown Minneapolis is very different from Caledonia...

Default Housing near New Brighton

I would consider Coon Rapids, or Blaine area. They both have some older areas that may offer some rental properties at fair rates. There are also numerous appartment buildings in the area. If you find that you like the area, then you will find the variety of homes great in that area. Coon Rapids has a imaginary divide between the "newer" homes and the "older" homes. You should be able to find what you are looking for there.

I hope that this helps, but feel free to contact me if you are looking for more specifics.

Tony

Are you looking for something in the construction industry? If not check out Hedberg Aggregates, Anchor Block or Cemstone.

All the guys I know who do cementing only do it about 8-9 months/year and collect unemployment checks in the winter months. One thing you'll notice is that Minnesota has extremely generous social services...also heavily abused I might add.
