Regarding the schools, I'm not sure if you've heard...but the Brainerd school referendum failed and they are in the process of making MASSIVE cuts. I've heard they're cutting like 70 teachers, many programs (including most of their foreign languages, etc.) Not very good times for them right now, I'm afraid.
Other than that, I've only been through there a few times, so can't help much with your other questions. Seems like a nice enough town...they have decent shopping, the community college, etc. Pretty area with lots of lakes nearby, though I've heard it gets pretty touristy in the summer. I'm sure not as many traffic issues as St. Cloud though. (I know people from the Twin Cities are laughing, but that town can be a "you know what" to drive through if you're not on the freeway.)

I will second the "touristy" comment. I have been going up to Aitkin, MN(roughly 20 minutes or so from Brainerd) in the summer for as long as I can remember, lots of out of towners, including me Seems like a really nice area with plenty to see and do. mod cut For your job, search for "brainerd dental" on google.com

This is an issue affecting the entire state right now. Duluth is being hit hard as well and they anticipate deficits for 5 years before things start being normal again. (Although deficits seem to be the norm now)

Thank you all for the info. I did read about the schools, thats too bad. It really is. AND about the traffic in St Cloud you are absolutely right. I've lived all over the last few years and I've never seen anything like it.
Thanks again
