Need House / Cabin Up North
I have lost my home of 20 years to forclosure and need to find a place that I can afford. I receive disability payments from the Veterans Administration (stress related) that are at poverty level. Don't get me wrong, I'm thankful to receive these benefits. So I really need to find a place to live away from the Metro area. I'm not looking for a seasonal home, but it would work. I have relatives in Az. for winter? I am not looking for anything real nice. Just a place to put up my tent would be OK if there are facilities & maybe a fence. I have 2 dogs (my family) that have pulled me thru some tuff times. If you need a little help fixing things, maybe I could do some of it for you. I'm not looking for a job though, I'm more into retirement. Just about any place north of Milacs lake would be where I hope to find my next home of 20 years. Thanks for all help. Bob

Yes, I would look into the Aitkin County area NE of the Lake Mille Lacs region, and just a little east of the Brainerd Lakes region. Aitkin County is a rural county with around 8 people per square mile, and the town of Aitkin is fairly small with affordable properties. Also, Aitkin is not too far removed from the ammenities offered by the Brainerd/Baxter off to the west. Aitkin County is a big retirement area, but without the big price tag associated with the Crow Wing and Cass counties.

You could find a house for 40k in International Falls, Randall, Staples, Grand Rapids, Chisholm, Virginia (the town), Tower, or many of the other towns in the middle of nowhere.

Hi,
Sorry to hear about the foreclosure. I know of a lake house out in Sauk Centre but not sure if it's in your price range. The cabin is available for rent and I believe it's for sale too. I know the person who owns the place and he's really nice.
The link is: brickyardcottage.com
Good luck on the house hunt.

I believe the OP stated they lost their house through foreclosure and that they recieve a small disability check as their only source of income.
Buying would be out of the question.
I would look for a small trailer house near a rural Minnesota community up North. (NOT close to a lake )
Since you have a place in winter (Arizona), I think you could find a summer rental.
I will be blunt-----it will be rough for anyone who doesn't have cash and only a small disability check to survive on.
