Minnesota High school Graduating requiements
Hello- Our family will be moving to the area soon from Michigan. My son is in the 9th grade and he is the first class to have to meet extra requiements for graduation that MIchigan just put into place, What is the requirements in Minnesota. He takes some speacial Ed classes but also takes regular classes as well, He really just needs extra help and monitoring. I have had to fight for everything he has recieved, otherwise he would be in Sp. Ed all day and that is not what his testing shows that he needs. Also I believe it is the same in every state but does MInnesota have NO Child Left Behind.

The requirements change almost yearly; the school guidance counselor should have a list of requisites. Usually core eng., math, science and social sciences classes. Gym, health and maybe one or two fine arts classes are normal also. A second language is good for college-bound students, but is not a grad. requirement (I think). There will also be state assessments that will need to be passed before graduation.
Minn. is no child left behind.

The state has minimum requirements and then each district adds their own. Our district requires 4 years of English, 4 years of social studies, 3 years of math, 3 years of science, 2 years of a foreign language and 2 years of PE, 1 year art/fine art, 1 course in family/consumer science. I think that is it? You also have to pass the grad standards testing.
Unfortunately ALL states have No Child Left Behind. There is talk at the state capital of repealing that and forgoing the federal funding. I don't think things are as bad in MN as they are in other states from what I have gathered from people across the country. I know in our district they spend about 2 weeks before testing prepping for the tests but other then that the curriculum is what it should be.
