Default Too many Mosquitos???

I was wondering whether is true there are so many mosquitoes in Minneapolis metro area as there appears to be.
I've always heard MN's reputation of a place where mosquitoes party
but I simply ignore it
untill once again in that song "Say Shhh" by Atmosphere,
there is a verse He says:
Too many mosquitoes and a fair share of egoes
So I imagine it must be really infested!

How do you minnesotans deal with this plague?

Last year I was probably bitten 10 times...no big deal. It probably depends on the weather.

It depends on where you live. If there is any standing water nearby (quite common in hillier areas), or if you live by a lake, chances are you'll run into them every once in a while, especially just after sunset.

I moved to Altanta. The termites, fire ants, and palmetto bugs are SO much better...

Seriously ... MN has skeeters, but we've found two dead scorpions here (one in the driveway, and one this past week actually *in* the house!) in 3.5 years. I don't remember seeing scorpions in Minnesota... Little tiny inch-long suckers, but still...

How about poisonous snakes. You have any of those down there?

So...if there are skeeters, I assume there should be their natural predators as well: spiders
Scorpions??? That's really weird...
Scorpions are not typically seen in cold places... they prefer the deserts...

Haven't seen any, and I'm under the impression that they aren't at all common.

It seems the Southern Devil Scorpion is occasionally found in Georgia.

Rattlesnakes are found in southeastern Minnesota bluff country. The mosquitos depend on your proximity to water, but even more important is how much rainfall we get. In a wet summer the mosquitos can be horrible. In a dry summer such as the previous few the mosquitos are not bad at all. There are no scorpions in Minnesota, however, scorpions are not only found in dry regions. They are very prevalent in wet areas as well but are generally confined to tropical or subtropical latitudes.

In a normal summer it is difficult to be outside after dusk because of the mosquitoes. The past 3 summers or so have been extremely dry and basically no mosquitoes.

I know things run in phases, but it seems that people are really looking for a 3 season porch these days. Had a couple buy an otherwise dog of a house (they agreed with me on that point), but it had a three season porch and a nice backyard. Their reasoning - enjoy outside without the bugs.

Next season it will probably be cabinet knobs or something silly like that.
