Default Moving to Rochester, MN

Hello all,
I am new to the forum and I need some advice about the city of Rochester, MN. My boyfriend is going to be working at the Mayo Clinic come in June. I was just wondering if there were any links to look at for renting apartments as well as jobs. If anyone has any kind of information that will help a great deal. We are coming from Mississippi so it will be a big change. Any advise will be greatly appriciated! Thank you in advance.

If he's going to be working for Mayo Clinic he should ask their HR department. They would know about apartments for rent.

As far as jobs, you can check online job sites, or Rochester Post Bulletin online might have classiieds on their web site.

Good luck and if you have any other questions let me know and I'll try and answer them.

Mayo HR can send you a list of the Mayo classified with rental information. You can try craigslist as well craigslist: rochester, MN classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events

The Post Bulletin (PB) Postbulletin.com: Rochester, MN is the local paper.

for jobs you can the PB,

mayo site: Jobs at Mayo Clinic in Rochester

olmsted county: Current Openings

city or rochester: City of Rochester, Minnesota: Employment

also try the usual job website like monster etc.

Default Thank you

Thank you both.
All those will help me. I have looked at the Post bulletin and have looked at some jobs. It is very helpful. Another question I had was about the schools in Rochester. I am thinking about getting my teachering certificate. I have a bachelors degree in interior design but I am interested in teaching. How is the interior design market in Rochester? If you all can provide any kind of info that would be great! Thank you!

Default Rochester Education degree and housing

If you are interested in an Education degree, Saint Mary's University at the Rochester Center, offers a good program. M.A. Education I have a friend that is very pleased with this program and she has a great teaching job. The area east of the University Center is growing and has a few new developments, which have homes less than 10 years old that are affordable--equal to rent (near 36th Ave SE) and are literally 2 minutes away from the college and about 5 minutes from Mayo. Also, the SE has lower property taxes in comparison with other areas of Rochester. Check with Mayo HR and craigslist.org.

Joe1979-
Your posting caught my eye..I'm also moving to Rochester (my boyfriend is going to be working there come June as well) and I have my bachelors in interior design. I'm just making the move from Minneapolis which doesn't sound far but it feels like too different worlds! We worked with a great Realtor (Dave Kinneberg) down there and we're closing on our house in 2 weeks. I'd definitely suggest you buy instead of rent the market is great and affordable. As far as interior design jobs..do/did you work in commercial or residential design?

-tmw,
Hey thanks for the help. I will look into that realtor. We are going to buy eventually but since we are so far away we don't want to jump into anything right away. We want to wait it out and find a place that we really like. For now we are interested in renting an apartment for a few months and then buying a house. What a coinsedence you are in interior design too! Thats great! Actually I worked in residencial for a while but I did not particulary like my boss so I am currently working for a contactor doing some drafting. Are you in residential or commercial?
