Post Duluth for asian couple

Wife and I are considering an employment opportunity in Duluth.

We are a young couple in our early 30's from Indian ethnic background lived most of our lives on the East Coast (NY/NJ). Wondering if Duluth is the right place for us. I understand that the vast majorty of the population is Non-hispanic white which is great. Just wanted to know if they are open minded and are welcoming to others.

We also have a 2 yr old son and would be interested in knowing about schools.

Your comments and honest advice would be greatly appreciated.

The downtown area has more color, naturally. It might be tough finding authentic Indian food. It's a lot colder than the East Coast, but other than that you should be fine. It's much more scenic in my view, and if you like the outdoors lots to do.

The city of Duluth itself seems to be diverse enough as it's a college town and one of the larger cities in the north of the state. I'm sure it has it's share of small-minded idiots, but I imagine that's a small minority in the city. I would love to live up there. It helps if you love the outdoors and the Great Lakes like I do. You should take a short trip and check out the city. Good luck.

Two good Indian restaurants, India Palace and Taj India, within a block of each other, both with favorite authentic and inauthentic dishes. One world traveller, who tries saag paneer at Indian restaurants across the world whenever he can, said Duluth's India Palace's is the best, tied only with one on the France - Switzerland border. Don't know if he's been to India, but that's a high honor. There's also a small Asian grocery that stocks some Indian goods and Cub Foods has a small Indian section as well.

There aren't many (Asian) Indians in Duluth, but you'll probably be accepted as anyone else is. I wouldn't consider that an issue.

My former 4th grade teacher and (again, former) neighbor is of Indian heritage. I hear one of his sons owns one of the Indian restuarants in town now (not sure which one). I was pretty good friends with my teacher's daughter growig up...our neighborhood was an average, white, middle class kind of place but their family was a welcome addition to our neighborhood. I don't recall them having any problems.

Good luck!
