Not being condescending. Just stating for a lot of people they may never realize what they didn't get out of the Duluth schools.

Once you get to college the high school curriculum fades in importance rather quickly, anyway. So who cares?

I mean, what exactly is a Duluth school missing that another school has?

Can you provide me with more information about this development (Crystal Village) in Duluth? I do not see anything happening in that development that indicates summer/fall '08 construction.

Lot sizes are 1/2 to 1 acre and run between $49,000-$85,000. You can hire your own builder which may be why you are not seeing any construction. One builder is not developing the entire site. All utilities are in (city of Duluth water and sewer). There are about 3-4 homes built already.

The neighborhood is a mix of older and newer construction. The newer homes are typical mcmansions closer to Crystal Village and all border Arrowhead Road. The older homes are small 1940-1950 style houses.

You would be about 5 minutes from the Miller Hill Mall Area and about 10-15 minutes from downtown. Both College of St. Scholastica and UMD are within 5 miles of the site.

The website has a plat map if you are interested. crystalvillageinduluth.com

Modern facilities for starters. Many of the Duluth schools are 70-80 years old and do not meet building safety codes, are expensive to maintain, and do not provide modern facilities for athletics. The "Red PLan" will cost $293 million dollars and raise the average tax on a $125,000 home about $9. The Duluth schools rank 34 out of 35 for greater Minnesota school fnding per pupil.

I guess that is true that they didn't spend much on us. Even teachers had to pay for this stuff out of their own pockets. Really, it was kind of sad. but we made due. The only teachers that had a lot of problems were the ones that loved to print stuff off.

We also barely had any in-class educational field trips. Just two that I can remember from my whole high school career. They were from the same teacher as well.

Ah well, I can't complain though. I think they worked fine for me.

Crystal Village is aimed to be a Nostalgic Neighborhood. It is not open to any developer and you cannot bring your own developer. There are only a few lots left that you can bring your own developer. In order to get the development started it was opened that a person could bring there own developer. However this only applies to the first three to four lots. The first house closest to Swan Lake Road is what the rest will be aimed like. There will be around a total of 45 lots. Serenity Cove is final road to be constructed in the development when Crystal Drive is somewhat full. It will come off of Crystal Drive right before the circle starts.

The developers of the development right now are working with people to build homes. In the coming months around three homes may be started. Homes in this development typically don't start lower than $400,000. Homes can go into the upper millions and that could be the case with the homes built on the larger phase two lots on Serenity Cove.

This development is very nice and could include a welcome sign and lamp posts in the coming years. The goal of this development when it is completed is to recreate memories from the Nostalgic years. Thus being said the two houses that are more modern were not built by the developers of the development. If a person would like to build a home in the development they would work with the developers in designing their home and then Crystal Homes would be the builder of the home.

If you would like more information on this development please do call Philip Johnson at 218-940-3563.

Duluth versus Hermantown....Who is "Crystal Homes"? And is "Crystal Homes" the only builder allowed to build in this development...Crystal Village?

Crystal Homes is the developer and builder for Crystal Village. Crystal Homes also built all of the the homes in the Ponderosa Grove development off of Swan Lake Road and does various houses around town. Crystal Homes designed Crystal Village and put the roads in and utilities in for that development. Now Crystal Homes is the exclusive builder for the development.
