Default Commute time - Hudson to Minneapolis

I work in downtown Minneapolis and was considering a move to Woodbury -but for as far East in Woodbury that I was looking - I am starting to consider Hudson as it isn't much further. How bad would the commute be from Hudson to Minneapolis?

A former colleague used to do Hudson to Eagan which wasn't too bad. (The worst part was crossing the river on 494, which you won't have to do.) However, once you hit the outskirts of St Paul/Mpls things will slow down considerably. You might have to swing north on 694 to avoid going thro St Paul which would be a long way around. Going into downtown St Paul and then north on 35E to Roseville and then into Mpls might be an option but that intersection in downtown is a killer.

Another option might be going thro Stillwater (over the liftbridge) and then on Hwy 36 but the liftbridge during rush hour can be pretty awful. It really depends on what time of day you're doing this. Have you considered moving to Stillwater or Bayport instead? That way at least you wouldn't have to try and get across the St Croix every day.

Once you get close to St Paul the traffic is insanely slow during rush hour.

I wouldn't recommend it. When we first moved to Hudson in 01, my wife commuted to downtown Minneapolis. Horrid traffic; remember, you have to face both St Paul and Minneapolis rush hours-- unless you work a second or third shift job. With so many new and upcoming areas on the west side of the metro, why would you want to go east? If you worked for 3M, the state, EcoLab, or another downtown St Paul business, living in Woodbury or east is perfect. Commuting to Minneapolis during peak traffic from the east will take twice as long as living in the west metro.

This is just my opinion. I personally love living in western Wisconsin. Much less cosmopolitan than the Minneapolis side, but more wide open spaces.

Good luck with your decision,
disneyrecords

Back in 2001 and 2002 I lived out in Woodbury and commuted to Minneapolis. If I left early, 5:45 the commute was OK. Any later, long and painful. The ride home was only decent if I left by 2:45PM. Otherwise very painful stop and go traffic. We loved living in Woodbury, but I don't think the commute is worth it.
