Default Smaller High Schools

We are moving to the Winona area. My husband can live in the Winona, Rochester, or Lacrosse area. My son is going into 10th grade and I don't want him in a huge High school. I'm looking at the craig listings for homes but I'm not sure where to live where the would be a smaller High School. He goes to one in Michigan that has 500-600 in the whole school we live in the country.

Winona will have the smallest high school of those 3 towns. They will have roughly 250 kids/grade or so.

oconnorcm3 is on a distinguished road
I graduated from Winona Senior High over 30 years ago. I toured it about 2 years ago and it hasn't changed much. I believe that a graduating class is about 300-400 kids.

You may want to consider Eyota. It's just outside Rochester (about 10 miles), on the Winona side of Rochester (Hwy. 14 runs between the three cities). The schools are said to be very good in Eyota. It was a small, farming community but is now more of a Rochester bedroom community. The Mayo Clinic bus takes folks to and from Rochester from Eyota. It's flat (boring) but convenient to Rochester, LaCrosse and Winona (about 30 minutes from Winona and 35 from LaCrosse). The school draws from the nearby community of Dover too. I believe the number of students for Grades 7-12 is just over 500 (meaning that a graduating class would be under 100).

Homes are fairly affordable too.

Dover and Eyota have combined their schools - so it's Dover-Eyota. There is also St. Charles, which is about 20 minutes from Rochester on Hwy 14 (on the way to Winona). Not sure of the numbers but they certainly aren't big.

If you are looking for small private schools, Winona Cotter ($5600) or Rochester Lourdes ($6500) would be good choices as well.
