IN Duluth, I love Chef Yee's, they had awesome szechuan chicken, on 1st W between 3rd and 4th, accross from qwest/ymca. Mixed crowd, I usually went there for takeout in the evening when I worked the nightshift at qwest.

The Tavern on Grand up "on the hill" on Grand Avenue in St. Paul. All their food is excellent, but the Walleye is unbelievable. There are several other really cool and eclectic restaurants on Grand Ave. The Lotus (Vietnamese), Dixie's (southern style cooking), and several others.
Also in St. Paul, is Mickey's dining car. A must see if you want to experience an old time "dining car" restaurant. It's one of only a few dining car cafes still in existence in the US. Try the Mulligan Stew! If you're interested in Korean food, go with Snelling avenue just north of Midway area. There are two good Korean restaurants there - Shilla and Mirror of Korea. In Duluth, I always like to stop at The Pickwick. Irish themed, you can see Lake Superior, and the food is good. Sammy's pizza in Superior, Wisconsin (just across the harbor from Duluth) is reminiscent of old school pizza places (in taste) and the salads are wonderful. Plus it's got a hometown feel to it. Big, high-backed booths and an old jukebox. They also have a a couple of locations in Duluth. Murray's Steakhouse in downtown Minneapolis is unsurpassed in this region, in my opinion. Be prepared to spend a bit, but you will leave satisfied. It's been family owned and run for decades, and is quite well known in these parts. Then there is Matt's Bar, the "Home of the original Jucy Lucy" in south Minneapolis. They serve cheeseburgers with the cheese INSIDE. They have won numerous local awards over the years. Be careful with your first bite though. The molten cheese inside can burn your mouth. It's a great place if you're in the mood for a neighborhood burger joint/pub. They cook the burgers right behind the bar. On Nicollet avenue in Minneapolis is Christos, a Greek place. I have not had a better gyro! |

That brings back so many memories! I have siblings who live in the Cloquet area---and I was born in Cloquet. Gordy's Hi-Hat is where we would always go when those of us who lived in other parts of the state could get back to Cloquet for a family gathering. Thanks for the reminder. Time for a road trip!

My family's favorite is the Rustic Inn in Castle Danger (on the north shore of Lake Superior). Favorite item is the "More than a Sandwich" and their huge, homemade pies. Yummmmm

I've eaten there. Good fries! But Lion's Tap in Eden Prairie has better burgers, I think...
