I might be moving to the Winona area. The area looks wonderful, but I do have some concerns.

It seems that the public schools are rated pretty poorly, and there were news articles about bullying and issues in the schools.

I'd love to hear some feedback from locals about the state of the public schools.

In looking at a place to rent (or potentially buy), it seems to be mostly clapped-out houses turned into student rentals. I love some of the nicer old homes and how central they are, but I'd be concerned if I am moving next door to college kids with loud partying and such. Are there any areas I should look to for rentals, or areas I should avoid?

I doubt you’ll get any responses here. I’d go stay in the city for a few days and observe on your own. I’ve met tons of locals in north shore towns just hanging out at their bars, the tons of info I was provided is priceless. This or coffee shops where it’s easy to engage locals to get very useful info.

Thanks for the tip. Yeah, it's so hard to get any sort of idea about a town without going there. Everyone comes from a different set of contexts, so their expectations and experience will be a lot different.
