Strange question from France
Hello Everyone,
My wife and I are English but have lived permanently here in France for the past 5 years. I recently bought a gold Seiko watch from Ebay France, the seller is from a town just outside Paris.
I was very pleased with the watch when it arrived but very surprised when I turned it over to look at the back. It is inscribed as follows: JOSEPH E. SHAW - IN APPRECIATION OF 33 YEARS OF SERVICE - LTV STEEL MINING COMPANY.
Being inquisitive by nature I web searched the company and found that it is (or was?!) based near a place called Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota. A further search produced a link to this forum.
I just wondered if anyone knows who this Mr. Shaw might be, and if he has any clue as to how the watch moved from Minnesota to France. Perhaps he sold it/lost it/had it stolen/gave it to a passing French beggar.......!
Hope someone can help.
Sincerely,
Jack
