Dunno, but Target probably figured out they can't sell Michael Graves teapots to folks in Eveleth but could do so in Virginia.

I have to drive past at least 2-3 Targets to get to a Wal-Mart.

Default Merging - Look it up

I originally posted this twice but both times it looked like it was in the wrong area. Now that I have had time to review this, I realize that this thread got a little off track. My response below is for those who were posting before the Target and Walmart aspect got started....

Regarding the comments on merging... According to the Department of Transportation, the process of merging depends upon the type of merge occuring.
If you are on an onramp and are trying to merge into traffic, you are required to slow down and, if necessary, COME TO A COMPLETE STOP until oncoming traffic is clear. This does not mean accelerate to 70 and push in. The people who are slowing down or stopping are obeying the law. While I do not agree with this, it is the way the law was written. (I originally did not believe this and looked it up).
When there are two lanes on a road or freeway merging into one, drivers from each lane are supposed to go in turn. This means that one driver from lane one proceeds and then the driver merging from lane 2 proceeds. THIS DOES NOT MEAN THAT THE IDIOT WHO THINKS THAT PEOPLE IN THE MERGING LANE HAVE TO SIT THERE AND WAIT HAS THE RIGHT TO BLAST HIS HORN AND TRY TO CUT THE OTHER DRIVER OFF!!! Sorry about the caps, but I had a school bus driver do this to me a while back (school bus 35 on highway 10 where it merges into 35W).
Like it or not, this was how the rules were written. Look it up if you don't believe me.

I’m an immigrant from Asia, Here’s my experience in MN: People are nice in the sense that strangers would strike up a conversation with you, hold doors, smile.... But strangely, when they became somewhat anonymous they became different. For example, Minnesota drivers are extremely impatient, if you don't step on the gas within 1 second the light turned green, they would beep!! (this is in comparison to my living expeience in both east and west coast mega cities) I dont know the reason, maybe they are suppressed in real life by being Minnesota nice. All my coworkers seem very pleasant, but I've been informed that a few of them stabbed me in my back (I'm still trying to figure out who they are since everybody seems like me). I also witnessed coworker stabbing her "good friend" (another coworker) in the back. I guess that happens everywhere so it's not really about Minnesota, except other times when I got stabbed I could kind of figure out who it was instead of having no clue.

I also feel like everybody and his grandpa are either from here or some other nearby midwest state, some of them are well traveled but still, my name has been commented on many times cuz it just sounds strange to local ears, people comment on my accent, not bad comments, they would say "how cute..." but I'd rather they just treat me like a normal person. But I did manage to make some "friends." Friends in terms that we hang out. I also bought a set of nice gifts for a "friend"s new born baby, paid $60 for a meal with another "friend," but when I left the company, neither of these friends even bothered to say goodbye or take me out for lunch. (actually one sent me a very short email turning down my invitation for a goodbye lunch, one called me but had to hang up in the middle saying would call me back but never did, so no goodbyes face to face) Dating is hard, guys lost topic to talk about once they learned I'm a foreigner or just simply lost interest, some guys commented on my Asian eyes(I'm quite stylist and cute, but I'm for sure not white and blonde).

That's just my experience. I might just have been unlucky or what, but I need to leave.

I have lived in the Twin Cities for 23 of 24 years (all over the Metro). People here seem about the same as most other large cities, although I totally agree on the passive-agressiveness that a lot of people bring up. That is one thing I admire about New Yorkers, they tell it straight and don't hold anything back. Living back in Richfield now, I do notice that city folk are much friendlier than suburbanites, who seem impatient and always in a hurry. And people drive a lot better in these parts, since they're used to seeing pedestrians and cyclists. (I know, I know, Richfield's a suburb, but it doesn't feel at all like one, since you can actually walk places and use transit.)

I have to agree with the fact that Minnesota has TERRIBLE drivers, the kids are not trained properly on how to drive, the drivers are rude, do not use turn signals and tailgate, the kids are disrespectful in schools zones and crossings and hang out too much on the nicer days. I have Lived in MN most of my life, but after coming back fron the southern states and back to Minnesoata, the Minnesota drivers are WORSE, than Kentucky, Ohio, Tennesse and Oklahoma!
Minnesota NICE is not there at all, very uppity people, very much snobs, and mostly prejudice.
Too me this is sad, I thought Minnesota was nice, nope, notta, go to another state, much friendlier people without all the so called, self called "preppys"

People are the same everywhere, although sometimes there are different communication styles. Sounds like you have a major chip on your shoulder. Calling everyone from a state uppity, snobbish, and mostly predjudiced doesn't seem very nice ("MN nice" or otherwise) and maybe if you're having trouble with people being friendly it's because they're picking up on the antagonistic vibes.
