I have yet to see the full documentary (I missed the airing on PACT), but from the preview clip it looks to be a very professional looking movie! I think I'll order the DVD.

I defiantly think I will be ordering the dvd. It looks like a great documentary. Finally something that can show off this great city we live in!

The Mayor will probably decide that tourism is too expensive to promote...

I didn't really see this as a tourism promo for some reason. I mean sure, it paints a rosy picture, but there so little professional media that covers Duluth (and I don't mean the bridge). However it was funded, it's nice to a professional quality video showing more than Canal Park.

Duluth is nice but overrated. We spent Saturday night in a hotel with a "view" of the lift bridge and paid over $300. Every hotel was booked for the air show. Looking at a bridge is not worth that much. The hotels are using bits of this video in their online promos.

asitshouldbe: Agreed, I too tire of the bridge's constant exposure. I mean, it's cool and all but I really wish our promotional agencies and hotels would put less focus on the bridge and more on what the locals live in Duluth for. There are so many parks, great rock beaches and rivers up the north shore, Jay Cooke state park, the hundreds of inner city trails, the sandy beach that is Park Point, etc etc. I don't live here because of the bridge, I live here because of everything else.

Very true.. looking at the Lift Bridge (5 photos of the bridge on my site on my contact info) isn't a view that gets better at night or anything unless you're up on the hill... a view of the whole lake and Canal Park from near Fitgers or farther down the road is decent though.

Well, I did order the video I I'd say it is really well done, but short at 30 min. It does a nice job of capturing the feel of what makes Duluth so appealing to many. But I think it could have been expanded to an hour and shown some more specifics about things to do/schools/neighborhoods/quality of life. But hey, maybe then it would have been too "chamber of commerce/touristy".

I think it'd be quite the opposite if they covered neighborhoods, schools, businesses etc. Then it might be helpful to people looking to actually move here.
