So refreshing!
Wow! I was just there (London and Cambridge)in 2008 and I didnt get any of that. They were very polite to me. I had a great time in Aussieland as well ( I cant wait to get back there)
I am sorry that you had that awful experience like that

Actually I was treated that way in France, not the entire time I was there, but I did run across some that were rude to me just because I am American

I agree with the sentiments in tancee's post. I've had a hard time developing friendships in the couple of years I've lived in the Twin Cities area. People are nice to you when you meet them, but it hardly ever goes beyond that one encounter/conversation. I lived in the NY city for many years, so I don't really personally care about the "Minnesota Nice" issue. I don't need anyone to be "nice"...just people who I share interests with who take the extra step to invite me out or to their homes.
I also have a hard time making/developing friendships here where I live - in Utah. People are very nice but once they learn that you are not part of their religion then they don't want anything to do with you. Least in MN there is more Catholics !!!

I'm coming up on my second year anniversary of having the Privledge of Living in Minnesota. The entire two years has been fantastic. From the moment I crossed the boarder from Wisconsin I've been amazed at how well kept the secret of Minnesota's beauty. The folks in the first town I landed in were both friendly and generous, I felt at home right away. Then I moved to an even smaller town and could not have been more happy with the over all experience, all the people included. It's almost as if I've lived here all my life too, we were welcomed into the community with open arms. I surely was not expecting that.

My community cares about one and other enought that we actively participate in all kinds of action groups to make life in our small town better. Infact I'll be in one such class this evening, learning about how to identify our own resources and how to lead from within. There are about 20 of us from the community involved in this effort, that's 20 out of somewhere around 650 people. We're all about helping make Sebeka a better place to live.

Saddly our community lost two of our own in a farming accident last week. One of the funerals was this morning and I have never seen such a turn out. There are so many people who just want to be there for each other, through what ever it is we have to deal with.

So, is it Minnesota Nice you are panning? Well I can say this, you only get out what you put in. That applies to many situations in life, this is just one of those items.

Ok I'll add my viewpoint.

I've lived in MN off and on my entire 43 years. Every state is what you make of it. Your personality dictates what kind of friends you make...bottom line. I've lived in many other states and find MN no different from the others. It's what you make of it.

In other words...MN nice IS fake.

If you dont like it, then move!!! Simple as that, lived here for 30 years, like it, but am moving soon for job reasons. Come on these boards and complain, but the simple fact is, if you wanted nice then you need to be nice, we are not nice to outsiders who come here expecting us to bow down and treat them like royalty...get a life..somewhere else!!
