Default Living in Red Wing??

I would like to know what its like living in Red Wing. Is it a nice place for families with children? Is it a friendly town and close community? What are some of the things that children enjoy doing there? How are the schools? Please any info would be helpful.

Default did you move yet?

I see no one answered you. I have just spent a year researching and visiting (8 times) Red Wing and I changed my mind on the place. Bummer that Red Wing has taken such a change for the worse. Just go to their newspaper and start reading. You'll learn more. Good luck.

I'm surprised to hear Red Wing's having problems. What kind? Red Wing's one of those cities on my short list of places to live in MN if I was forced at gunpoint to move back.

Granted another squeaky clean city nearby, Northfield, has developed a bit of a heroin problem, so I guess anything's possible.

Wow...I don't really know just what to say about anyone wanting to move to Minnesota. I'm 50 years old and I've lived in and around Albert Lea my whole life. I had a brother and some friends that lived in Red Wing, they loved it there. And I always thought that Red Wing was a very pretty place to live. The only thing that really sucks about Minnesota is the cold winters. As I'm writting this it's about 16 below zero outside. I've got the block heater and battery charger plugged in on my plow truck waiting for it to warm up enough to start. Anyone that is okay with cold & snow will just love it here, also it get's very humid in the summer. It seems I've painted a bad piture of MN but it really isn't all bad....I've visted worse.

It has its pros and con's but, very pretty here. For the most part people that I've encountered are very friendly. My kids see it both ways. They have many friends but, also get races jokes and slurs from others on a daily basis. Some people still live in the pre-civil rights era and passing it down to the younger generations. I don't like the stereotyping some people use to judge you. I've even heard that I'm diffrent from other people they have met.

My other issues are the schools. They aren't doing well and overcrowded. Also, they don't do anything about racial harrassment. My children feel there are more kids here into sex and drugs than where we came from. I'm guessing because they know more of them. IMO it could be the fact that we are in a smaller town. I could live here without children and be just fine. As far as my kids, If the harrassement doesn't get better we will probably move.
