I hope the 5th ave project gets approved. Or is it already a go? How is that coming? I heard it is going to run from the convention center to the hockey center. I haven't heard much about the division st project from the river to 13th. Retail and lofts? Interesting...
I should have mentioned that as well. The architecture is great down there, just the quality of them needs some work, but buildings like the Theater, and many on 5th avenue are amazing. The downtown does have a hard time with riff raff, like bad students and others, but thats what you get sometimes with a large downtown.

I was actually on a committee for the 5th avenue project. During construction the stoplight at 4th Avenue will be removed and one will be placed at 5th avenue and division.

News at St. Cloud State University

The project from the river to the library was supposed to happen in 2012-2013, but with bridge replacement, they went ahead and decided to do it all at once. Its basically just road improvements, with a total change done to 9th avenue cloverleaf.

Are these renderings looking South on 5th towards SCSU? How far would the development stretch down 5th?

Here is A&L's renovation and addition to the Weiland Block on Superior Street in Duluth. I think the new edition fits in with Duluth's architetcure. The building on the far right is not part of the development it's The Electric Fetus.

The two North-South Anchors will be the National Hockey Center on the South, and the Civic Center to the North. That entire stretch I believe is the consideration for the 5th avenue corridor. The rendering on the left is on 5th avenue looking north towards Division St. Probably somewhere near 3rd street maybe. The second is of the 5th avenue intersection and Division St. Looking south towards campus. The river would be to the left.

Pretty nice. I'd prefer to see something higher though.

That St. Cloud development is really nice! They could do better without the cheesy city banners hanging from the lightposts, though.

Those are the university banners. I think they're kinda cool.

I like the banners, but you're right- If banners are done wrong they can become a little cheesy. I like subtly

A company called Vonjaro (i'm not sure of the spelling) is supposed to build a 9 story office tower downtown duluth sometime soon. Anyone here if the tower is still planned?

Don't know.

It'd be great to see Downtown expand eastward ... since it can't expand westward. Or how about upward. Tear down some of the buildings on 1st St. east of Lake and put up higher, denser structures.
