Default Anyone on threaad from Northfield?

I grew up there, went to high school and even some college there. Just curious if there's a regular on here that lives there now. My parents still live in good ol' Raider country!

Last time I was there, it was kind of sad...my old hometown looked much more like a suburb. Couldn't believe the sprawl since I was a kid. Last place I think I'd want to live now, but then...I live in the most rural place in America now, happily, so it's all a matter of taste.

I have fond memories of Northfield/Faribault/Farmington areas...Minimum Maintenance country roads ...and the old city pool where I used to be a lifeguard, which I'm sure is gone or rebuilt now--where the old football field used to be. Haven't even been in the lower 48 for almost 5 years.

Ahh, to reminisce! Aww crap, back to work.

My DH is from Northfield and his parents still live in that area. The old city pool is still there, although they renovated it last year/year before? My Dh and his family have very fond memories of the pool and the stuff they got away with there . Most of the 'sprawl' is technically in Dundas .

What is "DH" ? I see this constantly on the forum but am not sure what it means. I'll assume it doesn't stand for Designated Hitter though.

"Dear Hubby", methinks. Or "Darling Husband". Or maybe "Dorky Housemate"...?

In that case I think "husband" would suffice. I'm getting a little irritated with all of these needless abbreviations.

Thanks golfgal; wonder if your husband is anywhere around my age (I'm 31). Maybe I went to school with him--graduated 1995 from Northfield HS, which I'm told is absolutely HUGE now. There probably is another HS there now by this time.

Hopefully I'll hear from others who live there or know people there; just kind of want to catch up on it since my bro/his GF just moved back there, too. My entire existing family except me now live back in NFLD. I will probably visit this fall. Folks are coming up here for the first time to visit me next week; Alaska is a far cry from SE MN but it has things in common with Northern MN, for sure.

Talk at ya later.

The high school isn't all that much bigger then it was, maybe a few hundred kids. There is still only one high school. We are a lot older then you, sorry. We were old and married by the time you graduated from high school .

I grew up in Northfield and lived there until I was 20, then bounced around for a while (army bases, Duluth, Twin Cities suburbs) before coming back at 27 and staying for 10 years. Got married, owned my first two homes, commuted to the Cities, had three kids. Finally left a couple of years ago, but I was back this summer over the Fourth of July. We come back twice every year when we're back in Minnesota - once in the summer and once over the holidays (Christmas or Thanksgiving, it varies).

Cool. Thanks for responding Colleidascope. I was there until about age 21 or so before moving up to Ely for a couple years and then to the great state of Alaska. I do have some great memories of Northfield and my parent's house is still really nice--out on Hwy 19--what used to be a "rural route" back in the day but is now right by that brand new clinic out there. It's still pretty country looking, I guess.

golfgal, you may be closer to my parent's age then. Awesome. I don't know why, but it's kind of nice to hear the old pool is still there and that there's still only the one high school. Coming home this fall will be surreal for me but once I hit the ol' Reub 'n' Stein for a beer I guess it'll all come back.

I used to love hanging out at the Blue Monday coffee house; anyone know if it has survived? There and the Tavern restaurant/bar and Hogan Brothers were my favorite hangouts in college and high school.

Later
