What's wrong about outer ring suburbs? (Minneapolis, Plymouth: schools, living in, malls)

Some different posts I've read have said how bad it is to live in the outer ring suburbs like Maple Grove, Plymouth etc. We've lived in the Cities for three and a half years and really like living in the outer rings -- we live in Champlin. Can anyone tell me what the hang-up is here regarding this "where you live in the rings" thing? We love where we live and truly enjoy the access to everything from downtowns, malls etc.

Some people think that the suburbs are not sophisticated enough for them is what I gather. Personally, the suburbs of the Twin Cities have a lot to offer and the majority of the people that choose the suburbs aren't your bar hopping, stay out all night and party type people who think downtown Minneapolis is the only place to be. Those of us that choose the suburbs do so usually for the quality schools and the family atmosphere.
