Working in New Brighton...where to live?
Possibly moving from Texas to work in New Brighton.
I am 43, single, no children (one grown and gone) and would like to know where you guys think would be an appropriate place to reside. New Brighton itself? Burnsville? I really do not want to live in the "big city" but would like to be close enough to drive there on a whim if I wanted to. I would probably rent for awhile until I got to know the area but would just like your opinion on a nice but not boring and not too big, clean, friendly community.
Sorry if this has been asked a million and two times.
Thanks in advance.

You don't want to live in Burnsville if you are working in New Brighton; the commute would waste too much gas.
New Brighton would be a good place, as would St. Anthony or around Como park in St. Paul.

I would have a short list of St. Anthony, Falcon Heights, Shoreview, White Bear Lake, Lino Lakes and Roseville. New Brighton itself is also nice.
I ended up staying in White Bear Lake for the summer while they built my house. I was impressed with how many open areas and parks there are.

I really appreciate all of your quick responses. I am planning to visit my job in New Brighton soon and will do some research before I go on the suggestions you gave me.
Thanks so much.
Any other advice is much appreciated.

Not Burnsville (lots and lots of unnecessary miles, and you break the basic "easy commute rule" not once, but twice: Don't cross a river).
Any of the north-to-northeastern suburbs where you feel comfortable will work out nicely: Coon Rapids, Fridley, Spring Lake Park, Columbia Heights, St. Anthony, New Brighton, Arden Hills, Roseville, etc., etc.--look at a map. Don't cross a river, don't drive too many miles, and you'll generally be happy, even on those harrowing snow days.
