MPLS or St. Cloud? for "returning" college student
hi all, i'm glad i found this forum.
i'm a single 25/m from wisconsin, currently living in madison. i'm looking to transfer in to a state school in or near minneapolis to finish off the last 2 years of my bachelors. i chose the twin cities because i want to live in a bigger city, can't pay out of state tuition, and i'm not a big fan of milwaukee....i'm not sure if i should go to UM twin cities or st. cloud state....i'm basically looking to live near single people my age.....grad students....whatever. undergrads are fine, but not really my niche...
if i move to st cloud, will i just be a 25 year old in a sea of undergrads? would this be the same case at UM twin cities anyway? a quick drive to downtown on the weekends would be fine. would i have to be rich to live in downtown mpls?
sorry for all the basic questions, i'm a little clueless about the situation up there

You will find more grad students at in Minneapolis at the U. If quality is of concern, the U is the better school (in most fields). If size of the school is a concern, SCSU is smaller. I live in St Cloud and am not a huge fan of it. After I graduate this spring I plan on going to the U. There isn't a whole lot to do, it doesn't have the night life that Minneapolis does. Yet at the same time it is somewhat cheaper than Minneapolis as well, but not significantly. Living in "Downtown" Minneapolis is relatively expensive, but the area by the U is a couple miles from downtown and is more affordable. PM me if you have any other questions or want clarification.

If your trying to stay away from undergrads, stay away from st. cloud
Its pretty much just a party school

I'd live in Minneapolis if I was you. There are alot of good schools nearby that are worth looking into.

SCSU does have the rep of being a party school. If you want a degree that means more in the real world, go to the U. There are some others you could consider in MPLS too.

k, minneapolis it is! i'm intending to major in international studies, global studies, or east asian studies. the obvious choice for me was UM because i'm looking for "the best deal" and it would probably have the best program for my international ambitions. am i overlooking any good and relatively inexpsensive colleges? i've looked at concorida, st. mary's, augsburg, metro state but they all are either out of my price range and/or don't have my major...

what an ignorant comment
do you even know what a party school is?
are you indicating that the U of M doesnt have parties?
you sound like an idiot, im sorry. But any college/university in the united states of america that is 20,000 students, has parties. Big parties. get over it. thats college. i went to scsu for 4 years and the best parties i had ever been to were at the U of M and UMD...funny.. and i like to party.

Honestly, not really. Macalester is the best smaller school. Saint Thomas is good, and has good connections to the business community, but can be more expensive and isn't a national school. Concordia, Saint Mary's, Metro State are minor schools and, with all respect to those schools, they aren't a reason to come to Minneapolis.
You can get a studio in downtown or the University area of Mpls. for $550ish.

Concordia St Paul will have the highest percentage of grad students And you won't have to deal with tat "rat race" called the U of M. I went to SCSU '95. I thoroughly enjoyed my time there. But if I wanted to live and study in the Twin Cities, I would choose a smaller private school. The U is too much of a hassle. I wonder what it's like to attend The U, and not belong to a campus organization?
Of course you have to go to whoever offers your major
