Relocating to Minnesota
I'm hoping I could get some help regarding where to live in Minnesota. I am considering a career opportunity on Washington Street in Minneapolis. I am wondering where would be a good place to live, based on the commute into work everyday.
I am married with two young children, one if first grade and one in third. We currently live in a small town in Southern NH with a population of about 15,000. I would ideally like to have less than a half hour commute and would like to live as far out of the city as possible. I would like to be able to stick around the $200k range for the house.
Also, my 8 year old son is big into ice hockey and was wondering if anyone had any good info on leagues, etc. He currently plays on a select travel team, and has a 70 game schedule in addition to 3 practices a week. I would like for him to be able to participate in something comprable.
Any suggestions?

I actually work on Washington Ave in Minneapolis and recently moved out of the city to get more room and some of the rurual/small town feel. I ended up in the East/Northeast Metro area and so far I love it.
200K is slightly below the average home price here, so you should be able to find something.
The 1/2 hour commute is tough to satisfy the desire to be out of the city. I am currently running at 40 minutes and housing is fairly low density with woods and wildlife.
I would probably suggest White Bear Lake as good place to check into. It is about 24,000 people with a nice sense of community.
Hockey is not going to be a problem, It does sound like your son is playing beyond the standard peewee type program, so perhaps somebody else will have more info on that type of elevated program.

YOURE MOVING TO THE STATE OF HOCKEY, ARE YOU SURE YOUR SON CAN HANDLE THE LEAGUES HERE?
Its an honest question. NH and New England is good for hockey, but its not Minnesota.

I used to work on Washington and live in NW metro. Check out Champlin, Anoka or Coon Rapids. Ramsey is great too, but probably 45 minutes at the most.
If you want more info on any of these areas send me a DM and we can chat.

I would go towards Anoka. A nice downtown, a good range of homes but with lots of suburban style shopping areas nearby. The Northstar Commuter Rail line should open next year, and it would take you directly downtown.
