Heh. I remember actually doing that on 494 in 1988 or 1989 driving back from the airport (actually NWA Building C) to my parents' house in Minnetonka. It was snowing so hard that I couldn't see the signs above the road, I had to get out at least once to clear off the snow with my gloves, and I remember a half-dozen dead cars near the bridge where the Crosstown goes under 494 and the snowplows just zigzagged between them leaving a bunch of snow-covered lumps.
That was soooooo cool.

I remember the Halloween storm in '91 and having to crawl to the end of my driveway, then to the end of my street to get to a plowed road so I could get to work. Those were the days!

I drove my Supra to work during that storm (Goodyear M+S tires ROCK!), got to the Unisys MACS Building in Eagan where I worked at the time, and found that the building was closed for the day. So I went back to my car only to find that the idiot snowplow driver had done a once-around the parking lot and walled my car (and the entire employee lot) in with snow.
Thankfully, there was a guy in a Bobcat clearing the sidewalks, and also a school bus driver there who was picking up some customers who also happened to be a former Natl Guard bulldozer driver, and she used the Bobcat to push my car through the snowbank to the outside road.
Fun times...

Thanks everyone for the replies! I thought FOR SURE that I would just get a bunch of responses along the lines of "Meh. Who likes snow and ice?!? Move to Florida!" Okay, so here's the situation. My wife and I (and our 2 year old boy) live in Kentucky. We RARELY get any decent snows in Kentucky anymore, and I can remember getting seemingly a lot more snow when I was a kid in the late 1970's to mid 1980's. My only biological sibling,
(he and I were adopted after our mother was killed by a train while Christmas shopping just before the blizzard of 1977 close to Christmas in Kentucky)
who lives in Florida with his family is wanting to reunite with me and my family. I really miss him a lot. We are all wanting to "move north" (of Kentucky), where in his words "There are mountains (or large hills) and snow. I had thought of some state like Minnesota or maybe the New England area. My wife's family is from Massachusetts. Admittedly my wife and I like snow a little bit more than my brother does, or he wouldn't have lived in Florida for 12 years.
I just really like having White Christmases and big snowstorms, and I have always wanted to be go outside and iceskate on a pond or lake.
To the person that asked what makes me think I want lots of snow, ice or cold. We have had some pretty decent snowstorms in Kentucky. When I lived in Massachusetts we had a huge snowstorm a day or two before Christmas in 2000 I think. When I lived in South Dakota I experienced some rather frigid temps. Temps where highs were below 0 degrees, and windchills were in the -30 to -40 range. So I've had some experience with this type stuff. But nothing long-term to the point of where you can actually ice skate on a pond or lake. Where there is enough snow that's compacted enough so that you can cross-country ski or snowmobile.
I should mention that my brother brought up Colorado, and I told him that it's not as great as people say it is. That people do say the scenery is spectacular, but that it's really expensive to live there, and the only way you're going to live in lots of snow in CO is if you move to the mountains. Was I wrong in saying that? He did say he's going to look on this website today for some information on Minnesota.

Based on what you have said, I think Minnesota would work for you. I have heard (and this is based on posts on here and from comments made by other people) that finding jobs is more difficult in Michigan (that statement made as people said move to the UP). Northern Minnesota obviously has more snow and cold than southern Minnesota. I grew up in northern Minnesota and the only ice skating I did was on the rinks - not on ponds. Worked great for me! Not sure about skating on ponds in southern Minnesota.
Where in Minnesota might also depend on what kind of work you are looking for. Good luck!!!

My family 'job' profiles are like this:
Me: AS in Information Technologies -> Stay-At-Home-Parent & looking to go to university for either a business degree or nursing degree
Wife: Diploma in Nursing -> Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) & looking to go to school to become an RN
Brother: Very little college education -> Fixer-Upper and Wheeling-N-Dealing & *may* go back to college some day
Sister-In-Law: Some college, halfway through school for RN & at this moment not interested in earning a 4-year degree
So, basically there is only one person in our group that can get a decent paying job RIGHT NOW, there is another person in the group somewhat close to being able to do so, and as soon as I can decide what to major in I won't be far behind. And, of course, my brother despite having the least amount of education is the one person I know could find cash the quickest cash There is potential there!
While Minnesota is the front-runner I notice that NY seems to be making some of my top ten lists (large cities near by for work, lots of snow, cold temps, etc.)
