Winter is coming, eh?
The low temps here in NH have been a lot colder than the Twin Cities so far this month.

I try to shoot for Thanksgiving with a couple morning blasts of the gas fireplace but with highs in the low 40's next week I don't think we will make it to Thanksgiving this year.

I'm new to Minnesota and gearing up for my first winter here. Saw wet snow for the first time this season last Wednesday near Alexandria. I've heard from a few folks that last winter wasn't too bad in terms of snowfall. Is this true? Any predictions on this winter? (I'm a native New Englander and used to harsh winters!)

We have a wood-burning fireplace now and I was assured by my hubby that he hasn't lost his mind but in fact plans to begin using it once it's all swept out and good to go. Not sure how much of the house the fireplace will be able to heat, but it'll be an improvement so I can't wait!

My in-laws have a corn stove in their basement. They originally put it in to warm the Pup they added in their basement but soon discovered that it also warmed their main floor too. They rarely have to use their furnace. Our gas fireplace is in the family room on our main floor and it warms most of the main floor and the upstairs after about 1/2 hour of running.

That's fantastic! <~Note my excitement over anything warm!!

Our fireplace is in the main floor living room...if it could warm our room and the rooms upstairs that would be wonderful. I'd love to be able to use that and not have to turn on our furnace at all...wood is free so that doesn't hurt the budget!

Ah, t'was 20 degrees this morning. Just the first blast of real cold. We should be getting that Halloween blizzard anytime soon. We had snow showers all across the upper western hald of Minnesota over the weekend and in some spots closer to the west it even laid for a while.

That 20 will seem like a heat wave in a couple months.

Snow, well in Minnesota - the central part and to the north - gets delivered early on and at the end of Winter. The part in between typically is just cold and lots of it. Only the Wind can drive you crazy. Less wind and we're pretty good.

I'm jealous. We're 44 degrees F right now, and it's supposed to get down to 31 this evening, but that's not quite the same.
