Most areas of the metro area are quite nice, so it depends on what you are looking for. Do you want an older area? A suburban area? A new subdivision?
I can tell you there is a sizable Indian population here. Alot live in places like Bloomington, Richfield, Eagan and Edina. In Minneapolis proper, there are many Indian-owned businesses along Central Avenue; Bollywood rentals, grocers, restaurants, clothiers.

I just spent a couple weeks in Plymouth. Nice...
Except for Rush Hour - Be Prepared, although coming from NJ one would think you'd be more than ready for it. A few of my co-workers there in Plymouth are also Indian, you will not be alone.

There are many rentals in and near Plymouth, and that includes condo units that are being rented. You won't have trouble finding a good and affordable place. Depending on the size of your family, rent is anywhere from $850 to $1,100 for a 2-3 apartment, it all depends on location, rental complex and the size/condition of the unit. Best of luck!
