To my knowledge Cub is only closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas. The one by me is always open except those 2 holidays and I think those employees deserve time off with their families as well to. So if thats the only 2 days a year they take off I would say thats darn good.I know holiday gas stations are open and they carry some food. I remember back in the sexties when most stores were closed on sundays.

I know in Pennsylvania and South Carolina alot of stores are closed Christmas and most are closed Thanksgiving. In my opinion that's the right thing to do. I certainly don't think their families are less important than any one elses.

Everything Closes early because
Here in the north, the stores even close for the season, they only open for the tourist. They could care less about the people that live here all year long. They close some of the stores in our small towns as early as 5PM. Restaurants too.

In Sioux Falls, a few of the chain grocery stores were open, and the chain department stores were open. I really think that stores should be shut down for Thanksgiving/Christmas/Easter... and family & friends should enjoy their day.

You can't just shut everything down. People need goods and services on holidays too. I've worked a good share of retail in my day and have come to the conclusion that if you enjoy spending holidays and weekends with your friends and family - DON'T WORK RETAIL.

Don't work food and beverage either if you want the day off. For ten years I worked 18 hour days every holiday. It's OK when you're young and working overtime, but when you get older it gets old too. I make it a point to try and not eat out or shop on holidays.

According to my sister-in-law, who works for Cub Foods - if a close (location-wise) competitor (e.g,. Wal-Mart Supercenter) is open on the holiday, then the local Cub store can opt to be open - it's up to that store's management. Otherwise, they are closed - this is written into the union contract. Unlike big box supercenters, Cub's employees are union.

The main local grocery store in my hometown of northern Minnesota was open for a few hours on Thanksgiving. It is on every holiday but it just has shorter hours.
