Roseville standoff ends; suspect dies
From the Star Tribune, Dec 18th 2008;
Roseville standoff ends; suspect dies
An eight-hour standoff between police and a man holed up in a house in Roseville ended today with the suspect dead and two police officers wounded..
Police entered the house at 727 Terrace Av. about 4 a.m. on suspicion that meth was being made and sold from there.
As officers entered the home, the man fired, striking one officer from the East Metro Task Force in the arm and grazing another, according to Roseville Police Chief Carol Sletner.
Police returned fire and retreated from the house, Sletner said. Another man and a woman who were in the home were evacuated without harm, as were residents in 11 other homes in the area. Authorities contacted the man by phone. He told them he'd been wounded but said he would not be taken alive.
He broke off contact, and police were unable to reestablish it.
The first officer was taken to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries, and the second officer was treated on the scene, Sletner said.
Over the next eight hours, police fired tear gas into the house. About noon, they went back into the home and found the man dead in the home's lower level.
Police would not say whether the man died of a wound from a police weapon or whether he committed suicide.
Neither his name nor the names of the wounded officers were being released late this afternoon.
