Your feelings about WI
I am considering moving to Wisconsin. As a Georgia native, we hear quite a bit of criticism from our neighboring state of Alabama. Basically, they hate our guts. Some of the stuff they say is true, some of it is not. I'm just wondering what your opinion of the state of Wisconsin is. Please be honest and leave the Packers/Vikings rivalry out of it. BTW...I loved the Minnesota themed NY bar on "How I Met Your Mother" monday night.

I have nothing against the state personally and would live there. I would stay away from Northern Wisconsin for a place to live - but that's just my personal feelings. It's beautiful there and I'd totally vacation and camp there, but for me, it's just not where I'd want to live. Central Wisconsin is beautiful! I love it there. It's been many years since I've really been in Southern Wisconsin so I can't say much about it. I do think people from Wisconsin tend to have lead feet when they get behind the wheel in their own state and have feather-light feet when they come to Minnesota. Just my impressions and I'm sure others would disagree with some of it. But overall it's a beautiful state and I've not met anyone from Wisconsin I haven't liked.

Wisconsin and MN are very similar. Southern WI is BEAUTIFUL, especially around LaCrosse. Most of what you hear back and for are sports rivalries. The quality of life between the two states is very similar.

I've been told that the cops are much stricter in Wisconsin, especially if you have Minnesota plates. Wisconsin makes some awesome cheese and has fantastic water park hotels in the wisconsin dells. As GG said, it's really about the sports, that's truly the only rivalry.
I do know what you're saying though because I used to live in Florida. Floridians cannot stand Georgians. If you see a car with Georgia plates you give them a LOT of room. I guess there are more but that is the only one I remember hearing.

It seems I always end up in border towns. I grew up in SW Iowa so I was next to Nebraska, then north central Iowa and it was Minnesota now it's Minnesota and Wisconsin.
I've always seen it as a friendly rivalry.

They are both good places. I think taxes are quite a bit higher in WI - maybe it's property taxes. WI is notorious for cops giving out speeding tickets.

WI is a great place to live if you want a bar on every corner.
Seriously, the cultures are about identical expect WI is a little more libertarian. Meaning, more bars, more strip clubs , more fiscally conservative.

You aren't kidding about strict Police. I think the budget of almost every town is cemented by Fine based income. It's incredible the difference between how the Police in Wisconsin and Minnesota differ.
I believe the Minnesota Police are more of a Protect and Serve variety than is Wisconsin's Show Me the Money State. They are REALLY after your pocket books and wallets. In Wisconsin they are all busy writing tickets and booking court dates instead of being out there in the neighborhoods watching out for the citizens.
It has nothing to do with your plates and everything to do with meeting the finance needs of the communities. I once went to court to fight a ticket and was greeted by a "show". The Magistrate was almost doing a monologe going into it to entertain us before taking our money. I'm guessing it's a whole lot like that across the state. As budgets tighten, the police are looked to for the answer to all the budget needs, no matter who they have to take it from. Perhaps in SOME areas, out of state plates mean less hastle to the locals and maybe you are somewhat right.
Minnesota for the most part has Police that are compassionate and understanding and wish to be out there looking for real criminals. In Wisconsin while they may think they are doing the same, they are not.

HaHa! I didn't know that! I lived in the Atlanta area and if you didn't drive 80+ mph, you would get run down! Also, in Ga, if you see an Alabama tag, you pull over!
