I'm sure there are plenty... what part of the state are you interested in? How small is small to you? (100 people, 1000 people, 10,000?) How close do you need to be to a larger city?

I checked out some towns I know and most of the ratings were 3's and 4's yet I know for a fact that the crime rates are VERY, VERY low in our town and we had a 4 rating for violent crime and a 3 for property crime. My BIL is a police officer in town and the worst things they really have to deal with is the occasional bar fight and a 5th degree assault, which is pretty much a lovers spat in public (some pushing and shoving nothing serious). Southwestern MN is pretty much all like this. I know in our town there is no unemployment, employers are having a hard time filling jobs because of that. The schools are good, the cost of living is low, it is an all around good place to live.
You can't base everything on some website. Where do they get their information?

I guess I didn't understand the scale there, I went and checked to see what Minneapolis had for a rating, an 8, so I guess our 3/4 is pretty good. It should still be lower though.
I just checked some Suburbs and Rosemount has a violent crime rating of 1, property crime of 3, Stillwater has 2/3, Chaska 2/3, and Rogers, MN just to hit spots all around the metro, is 2/2.

I checked out spirlings and their info is out of date. it was last updated in January of 2005! you cant base decisions for today on info that is nearly two years old.

If you're looking a real small town (as opposed to an outlying suburb or small city) try Browns Valley, Minnesota. They have 600 people and in 2004 had 1 assault, 2 burglaries and 18 thefts.
Plus, it is located in a beautiful valley along a huge lake.
