Post Should I Stay in minnesota or move to Florida?

I am debating moving to Florida this summer to go to school. I lived in Minnesota my hole life and their really isn’t anything here but my family ( They cant always visit me). I really don’t care for the cold at all the first snow fall is always nice but I would rather live in the warm weather but there is pro’s and con’s about each place, I don’t know what I should do but with the encomny now days it doesn’t really madder where you move its going to be about the same..

What should I do or where should I move too?

Should I Stay in minnesota?

If you've been in Minnesota all your life it'll be beneficial to experience a different place for a while. I recommend studying out of state, then when you finish you can look for jobs back in Minnesota or if you've made alot of connections in Florida you could look there too.

Doublecheck,
If it is only for school, why not! (FL has inexpensive instate rate public colleges; some of the lowest in the country). FYI, if you have better than 25 on your ACT and in the top 10% of your class, you can "fairly easily" get in state tuition which is around $4500 per year. Even less at a comunity college ($2500 a year if memory serves me correctly). But getting in state tuition is the tougher part. Call the school in admissions if you get the grades. I learned about getting in state rates when I was searching (and digging deep) for my daughter.

The economy is NOT very diverse in FL. In FL, the economy is much worse than in MN. Meaning, basically no high tech, very little manufacturing, and no major employers. All of those companies in MN hire accountants, personnel, management etc even if they are not an enginner in a high tech company and those jobs pay well. In FL, there is the service industry like restaurants, hotels, construction (dead), and other not-so-good paying jobs. Don't take this too lightly if you plan on living there long term. Locals there complain of low wages and a lack of opportunity in FL.

Just remember, nothing says you cannot return to MN if it isn't for you. Just be careful on what classes you take to make sure it will easily transfer to mitigate your risks. Your young, go for it so long as you make an educated decision.

If the school/college is worth coming all the way down to Florida... then why not? You will only be here for the summer temporarily, right?
You can go to school and have a Florida vacation at the beaches if you have time. Do not forget sun block..you will burn!
Don't bother to pack your makeup if a female(Way too hot and humid).
The heat, humidity, and beaches gets old after a few years of living here for adults and kids alike.

Good luck with school. I hope you do all the research with your field/career and pay rates with benefit and stability compared to the cost and quality of living for you and your possible family before you decide which will be your permanent state.

Florida's mamximum allowable amount for unemployment benefits for any income level is $275 per week..... in case you plan to ever collect here with unfortunate events.
Check out the department of labor web site for other details with Florida's povery income level, Florida's minimum wage, and statistics.

If you are in the production, manufacturing, or highly industrial sector(a laborer, technician, logistics or in management) Florida is NOT good for you. Corporations or companies in this area hardly exist at all.

If you plan to work here while in school you will need a Florida's drivers license.
UPS is always a good place to have a part time job anywhere with the free medical/dental benefits and tuition assitance programs. Guaranteed pay raises and they are always union(Teamsters). Best corporation to work for here( in my opinion) either as a laborer, driver, logistics, or in management. They like to hire college students.

Move! Move! I think it would be beneficial for any MNsotan to live somewhere else just to see how it feels to "really" get to know other people.

I will warn you though, FL has a different kind of hot. But then again, MN has a different kind of cold. LOL! Which part of FL are you trying to move to? FL is very 'touristy', no matter what part you are in, so get ready for that.

Thank you! I live in MN but grew up in the south. Folks here always ask, how could you move away from the sun? I'm like, ya'll don't even understand. It gets hot! Hot enough to see heat waves...getting in the car after work on a July day...oh my!
