Thumbs down Brooklyn Park

I have been living in Brooklyn Park for close to 9 years. Very active with the city as a business owner and resident and have always known there is a high density of low income housing. I speak to the police department weekly and they admit the city is not taking steps to fix this as well!!!

I recently learned that Autum Park is going to be low income housing now too!!! What are they thinking!!!! It is a bad sign when the police department explains that successful criminals graduate to Brooklyn Park! I am so tired of the poor planning that goes on in this city and plan on running next term. Brooklyn Park as become the dumping grounds for low income housing!

The state of MN needs to create a plan that spreads this out over different areas as well. Basically Brooklyn Park can only demolish or wait for a private investor to fix their problems. The only city money available can only go towards low income housing.....SEE THE PROBLEM!!! I care about this city and know change is needed badly.....NO MORE FREE RIDES>>>>> I refuse to support a city that supports educated criminals!!!

Default city counsel

I would say that this is a good solution.
I didn't like the way things were run in my city and ran for city counsel last year.
Gave the incumbant a real scare.... I didn't win, but, amazing how some of my ideas are starting to be implemented.
Just remember to be very visual. Get out and get personal, go door to door.
Get your face out there, and your ideas.
That's the only way that things will change, or else people will just continue to vote for the same person who has been in there for 20 + years.

Why is it everyone is at "wits end" as to what is happening in Brooklyn Park and the officials don't listen? It has been going on for at least 15 years! I finally got so disgusted I moved to Maple Grove. Now I read this about more low income housing...What about the homeowners who paid the new builders/new developers high prices--they are going to loose until they get active voices.

Wow, trying to encourage white flight, you must be a real estate broker working in the city. Can I get your contact information?

Default Not an agent trying to create flight...rather a business and home owner in the area.

I am just annoyed that they would let an owner buy a market rate property and and convert it to section 42 right in the center of great residential housing and a nice neighborhood strip mall without even letting business or home owners know about it.

I plan on sending every complaint to the city with the person who allowed or promoted this idea as the party named on it. It is already a problem property so I am sure there will be tons of complaints especially when the home owners catch wind of what happened. I think this move by the city will cause a big change in who is running things in the future....everyone that has been in a the city for some time is absolutely sick of the poor management in regards to allowing low income housing dominate and ruin the citys reputation.

I too live in Brooklyn Park and as a homeowner am completely FED UP! Unfortunately the market sucks and my house won't sell for what I owe on it (The many people packing the streets for no reason on warm summer nights may have a part in the not selling as well). If the police would spend more time cracking down on the drug dealers and less time pulling people over for going 32 in a 30 mph zone we may have some improvement.

As soon as I can sell or rent out my house for section 8 or whatever works I AM OUT OF THIS CITY!

City Council does not listen to the problems and doesn't care so to hell with it and let them have their run down extension of North Minneapolis.

Thumbs down What are they thinking!!!

I am having such a hard time understanding what Brooklyn Park truly is doing....first of all they let an owner that I know is not good at renovations take over a 300 + building in a nice residential neighborhood and grants him TAX CREDITS..... I hate saying this but the name Crooklyn Park is going on at all levels!!!!

They not only have 1...I SAY 1 police officer for all the apartment communities!!! Brooklyn Park has a very high density level of problem apartment communites....1 officer is not enough!!!

Plus they allow a new high density low income housing developement run by an owner that had to sell his other holdings due to not keeping them up! The person that pushed this agenda doesn't even live in Brooklyn Park....I think he should!!!

You know it is bad when you talk to and hear people working for Autumn Park shudder in regards to where they are forced to go with their business. There is some great talent in that community, but they all realize that it is going to go down hill at the communities expense with the new allowance of change.

If the city of Brooklyn Park simply wants to let sub par owners come in and take their tax credits...do a few renovations and walk away with millions....let it be... this seems to be the Brooklyn Park way.... Rather than build a great city they simply let crime grow by not making the necessary changes. All they care about is Target moving in...totally turning their heads away from the real challenges.

Unfortunately I have a home and business in the area and it simply pisses me off. This city could be so much better!!! It isn't about the money, but rather the principle of the situation. Why tear down problem low income housing and build new low income housing in an area that is a nice stable neighborhood....simply creating a new Brooklyn Blvd in a new neighborhood that is stable, but soon destined for Huntington Pointe status.

I could name all the parties involved, but would like to respect their privacy. At the same time I am going to spend 1 million dollars to campaign against the idiots that allow this crap to go on...I am done putting up with it! It is the principle that motivates me and obviously the current adminstration doesn't care or have the intelligence to see the flaw in what they do.

It is really too bad because Brooklyn Park has so many beautiful qualities. Unfortunately it is not enough for me as a homeowner to stay. Since I can't sell for what I owe I will rent it out and move my family to a city that at the bare minimum cares and wants to keep their homeowners and residents safe. I will miss my few remaining neighbors but see ya! Maple Grove or Plymouth looks really nice to me.

Move to Edina or one of the nicer West Suburbs.
I'm pretty sure little money goes to low income housing.

Thanks for the advice Edina911. I really hoped for the best when I bought in Brooklyn Park 4 years ago but it has been going downhill with no city involvement. The talk goes on but I see no results. I may look at going towards the West but will have to weigh all the options. My son likes Hockey and from what I hear Edina has an awesome Hockey Program. Any rate, thanks for the advice.
