I moved to Los Angeles from Minnesota roughly a year ago and have met tons of Midwesterners out here. I would say almost half the people I have met are Midwest transplants and a good chunk are from Minnesota so there seems to be a pretty sizable group of Minnesotan's in the LA area but I guess that would be expected in the 2nd larget city in the country. The weather seems to be the biggest reason I hear from fellow Minnesotans who made the move to California.

I live in Montana, in the resort town of big sky. One half of everyone here is from Minnesota and half of them are from duluth. I truly believe that if everyone from Minnesota would stay in Minnesota, the state would have a population of around 40 million. Some people get sick of the cold, some get sick of the dead end economy, but more often then not, people just want to get out of minnesota because they are told how bad it is growing up. I for one love Minne, and hold it close to my heart. It offers everything in small doses. You can work, bike, ski, surf(lake superior, thats right, i said it!) farm, be a metropolitan person, be a redneck hunter/ fisherman, you can even be a righteous hollier then though fly fisherman. But everthing the state has to offer, others states offer it in greater amount. Minnesota was like training wheels for Montana. Everything I did there is much better here. But I do miss the Walleye fishing badly!

Well, I'm moving to Memphis, TN. After 23 years of liberalism, taxes and downright goofy politicians Jessy (the dunce) Ventura, and now it looks like Al Franken(stine) for Senate. The winters are too much to take anymore. The people are cliquish, if you're not born and raised here you will find few friends, all of mine are from out of state.
Memphis may not be the greatest but, the suburbs are nice and you don't have to stay indoors 9 months out of the year. Plus I'm getting a house with a pool.

HEAVEN!!!!!

Why would your mother want to move away from you?

As for winters, I like winter. I like snow. I live in GA so that is a novelty that makes me jealous of MN.

If you moved to MN, the novelty aspect of snow might wear off after a while.

Although MN isn't as snowy as many of the great lakes states... Or areas in the Rocky mountains.

The novelty factor might wear off. Still, snow provides many activities such as skiing, snowboarding, snowball fights.
