Growing up in Indiana
we called them corn dogs too, but since I have lived in Texas, well, do as the Romans do.
Interesting food fact about the State Fair of Texas: anything you can batter and stick in hot grease, passes for fair grub. Some rather disgusting examples this year:
Deep Fried Twinkies
Deep Fried Oreos (yuck)
Fried Coke
Fried Marshmallows
Now, they may even take a pass on "deep fried lutefisk". However, the corney/corn dogs are fantastic. You can actually hear your arteries clogging up!!

The Minnesota State Fair is one of the largest after Texas, with just about everything deep fried on a stick also.

Hey Longhorn, you're headed to a great state. We live in Texas now and have been here 12 years. My wife is from White Bear Lake. We have a son in Lino Lakes and we just spent a couple of weeks up there and went to the State Fair twice. Cheese curds capitol! It's hard to pick from all the suburbs around the Twin Cities. We lived in Forest Lake for 7 years and found it far enough away to be "out", but close enough for Twins, Vikes & Timberwolves.
I've seen 59º below in Devils Head Ski Lodge in Wisconsin...47 below in Chisago City. Dress in layers, hop on the snowmobile and cut loose. We live about 20 miles from The Gulf of Mexico now and mid August with 97º and a humidity of 90% with a clear sky does me in.

Well Paul, not too long until the move. Today is going to be one of the warmest days for quite a while. Today, it's supposed to get up to 55, and then drop back down again. If I see a Texas liscence plate around MG, I'll wave and we could hang out sometime!

Watchout for a 2003 Ford F150
With Texas plates, and Longhorns decals in the Maple Grove area. Scheduled for touchdown on the 18th, although my vehicle is being transported.
FWIW, as I left the Lone Star State for the last time, it was 82 degrees and sunny.
I am already cold.

It's snowing right now in the Twin Cities area, at least at my house it is. Sorry. It's just a light snow that won't stick though.

Right now at my house it's 40 degrees and drizzling. Sorry I had to tell you. I would definately take Texas's weather over Minnesota's, obviously-just look at my name. But don't worry, looking past the weather, the Twin Cities are pretty cool. If you're like me, you'll love Maple Grove.

Oh, by the way Paul, if you're an outdoor lover, in Rogers (that's where the tornado just was) there is a new Cabela's which all outdoorsmans should check out. Rogers is just about 10 miles from central Maple Grove. Don't worry, when winter comes it will seem like it will never end, but it will in 6 months, and summers are an absolute blast! You will hate the frozen winters, but try to get the most of it, get yourself a snowmobile or something. Snowmobiles are always fun, but make sure you bundle up whenever you go outside.
