Also keep in mind there are differences in the winter in different parts of Minnesota too. I grew up in northern Minnesota so the winters in southern Minnesota are not nearly as bad in my opinion.

Default Why are you considering a move out of the beautiful state of Colorado?

Why are you considering a move out of Colorado? Colorado is one of the best state in the USA to live. Few places in the USA can match Colorado for its spectacular scenery, mountainous topography and outstanding outdoor recreational opportunities.

If you can handle Chicago and Colorado winters then you will be fine in MN.

I'm hoping to get some feedback regarding what you might recommend. I am single with a dog. I have bookkeeper/office managment/admin skills - higher than average. I like to go to home cooking, ethinic restaurants. I like to have access to decent food shopping since I like to cook, too. I don't mind neighbors and like the outdoors. I would like someplace that is dog friendly with good off leash areas. I like to fish, go to festivals, and take my dog places. I don't like big cities, but I do not want to be without neighbors. I would like to rent a house but would be fine in an apartment. I would like to spend no more than $800/month rent. I have no kids, just my dog and I. I do not want to spend my free time commuting to/from work so I would like it under 30 minutes.

Any city suggestions? Any feedback would be most appreciated!
I bike in and around the twin cities on what is called the "grand rounds." Even though you live in a place now that has wonderful outdoors opportunities, they are often hours away. The wonderful thing about living in the twin cities is that you are only minutes away from the things you like to do: fish, festivals, and dog parks. I would strongly recommend any neighborhood close to the Mississippi River in either St. Paul or MPLS: Highland Park, Minnehaha Falls, Ford Parkway, Lake St/Marshall Ave bridge, Longfellow, etc... everything you want is there and accessible. Let me know if you want more info...

I lived in Colorado (Estes Park) for a year before I moved to Minneapolis. I have to say that the winters are not at all comparable. Minnesota is much colder for much longer. Now, with that said, I would not move back to Estes Park. I love living in a city as vibrant and diverse as Minneapolis. I was thinking the same thing, why any sane person would move from Coloardo to Minnesota beats me.

You comparing a city of 6,000 to a pretty big metro. I don't think that's a fair comparison. I saw pictures of the natural scenery of Estes Park, and I gotta say that it's a lot prettier than Minneapolis's natural scenery.

Winter in MN is unbearable, keep this in mind. I can almost gaurantee you'll regret your decision on some winter days.

I'm from the twin cities. It's just as metropolitan as Denver. Lets say you work in downtown Minneapolis, you could live as far away as Eden Prairie, Maple Grove if you wanted to because Mpls is not big. Those two are nice edge cities, but they're boring. (this does not mean LIFE would be boring if you moved to one of those places).

Minnetonka is a good suburb, along with Roseville. Your needs would be met well in either places. You'll pay like a two hundred dollar deposit for a dog, probably about $50 month as well. Maybe sneek him in if you think you can? well, dogs bark so it would be noticed.

MN is very affordable. I moved from Cali and just went through two MN winters and they are tolerable if you like the cold. I expected them to be much worse. The only thing I would say, is that if you are from CO you will miss the mountains.
