I like to go to home cooking, ethinic restaurants. I like to have access to decent food shopping since I like to cook, too. I don't mind neighbors and like the outdoors. I would like someplace that is dog friendly with good off leash areas. I like to fish, go to festivals, and take my dog places. I don't like big cities, but I do not want to be without neighbors. I would like to rent a house but would be fine in an apartment. I would like to spend no more than $800/month rent. I have no kids, just my dog and I. I do not want to spend my free time commuting to/from work so I would like it under 30 minutes.
Any city suggestions? Any feedback would be most appreciated!

I would recommend in and around the Duluth MN. area. In this area you will have a high success at doing the things that interest you the most. Guaranteed, no doubt. There are so many places to take your dog, your best friend your hiking buddy the companion whe will go through the trenches with you who loves the activities that you do the faith full companion. You mention festivals Duluth every year has a ethnic foods festival in Leaf Erickson Park offering foods from all over the world. You mention small cities and it seems the freedom to be able to go in any direction for a few minutes and be in seculusion. Moving to the Duluth area would be something that youd never regret. It has all that you need and its a wonderfull place to get out with the dog along. There are miles of beach front soft sand to walk along in both Duluth and Superior WI. It sounds like you like the wide open places for hiking with your companion. This would be the perfect place to roam. Winter and summer. Dont let somones ideas of a cold winter keep you from what would not be a mistake. Duluth area and residents live for the winter as it offers so many activities many of which are world famous. I have a dog also and she goes with me almost everywhere I go. We canoe together and we hike trails together. I dont have to worry about a leash law in some city park where we go. Places on the Superior Hiking Trail which is world famous and rated as one of the top ten hiking trails in the world. Running from Duluth up to the Canadian border. There are so many day trip possibilites here. The trails in and near the city are spectacular! Boulder Lake Recreational Area has a vast trail system. And you can launch the fishing rig here also. Winter Time Also. There are some of the cross country ski trail in the city in areas like Peidmont Trails, Hartley Nature Center is huge, Spirit Mountain, Boulder Lake and Lester Park, and Chester Bowl. These are only a few. Many more.

The outdoor attractions of the North Shore are amazing and Lake Superior is spectacular! Very dog and hiking friendly. These areas will not be dissappointing. There are places in and near the city that will keep your spirits in the right perspective. Hawks Ridge, famous for its hawks counting in the fall time of the year. Rock climbing and ice climbing are famous at Elys Peak. There are vast overlooks to watch the distance out across Lake Superior and beyond. The door is open for you. Just a short few hour drive and you will be in the Superior National Forest an excellent place for hiking and camping. Right next to this awesome place is the BWCAW. Boundry Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, what an incredible place set aside for you and the dog to come and enjoy for the day or longer. This is a free of charge area for the day trip issuing yourself an day trip permit which can be filled out at most or all the Entry Points into the BW. Not only does this area offer canoe trips but hiking trails are abundant also. Many of the hiking trails offered in and around the Northshore are rugged remote areas. Perfect for the style you like. The SHT offers campgrounds along its route at selected intervals for the overnight hiker. Also the confidence will be with you here as for the class of restaraunts you prefer and wont have any trouble finding the ingredieants needed for your cooking. Fresh meat shops are offered as are bread shops. In my opionion there are more activities offered when living up here as the drive or commute is not as long and the chance of being the only person where you go is greatly better. I have been to Rochester MN. several times but am glad when I get to come back home to Duluth. Walking along the lake in the winter storms enjoying the Leif Erickson Parkway and Brighton Beach. Hiking to a place I call the Top of the World, or hiking on sections of the SHT in the city. Its one of the best areas for fishing along Lester River, French River and others that pour into the lake. There are just more to do here and places that are close by will put thoughts and memories for you that will last a lifetime of activity.
Thanks
