How about we compare the crime/education/health care statistics! You know...the things that truly matter.
One thing regarding the extreme temps of both South and North that I haven't seen mentioned is regarding how they affect you due to timing.

During winter (our worst season according to most) in the northern climes, the "heat" of the day is during the middle of the day while most of us are at work so we can't really do any of our outside acitivties (shoveling, talking a walk, building a snowman etc...) until we get home, change cloths etc...upon at which point the sun has gone down and it's 10 or 15 degrees colder and therefore more misserable.

In the South during the summer (worst season according to most) during the peak heat of the day you're at work in your airconditioned building letting your employer pay for your cool environment. By the time you get home, change cloths, have dinner etc..., the temp has probably dropped 10 or 15 degrees and you can much more comfortably do your outside acitivties....most of the year anyway.

So, in my opinion, the South has the advantage over the north in this regard.

April is a FANTASTIC month, of course its the month I was born.I love April, its the smell, if you really pay attention the smell is the best part of April. The snow is melting, the rain is falling, the buds are budding the breeze is so fresh. I open my windows to let in the fresh breeze, its a wonderful smell, I LOVE IT. The birds are chirping, so happy that its warm. There are early blooming plants like the forsythia and blue hepatica.
October is the second best "smelling" month, the fall leaves smell so fresh and crisp and the coolness in the air intensifies the smell of the trees. There is nothing better than going to the apple orchard and pumpkin patch. Having your kids eyes light up when they have found that perfect pumpkin. PRICELESS. Taylers Falls, climbing the rocks and looking at the beautiful leaves. Duluth is also beautiful in October.
I forgot why you don't like those months. Oh ya' cold and windy. April feels great after a long cold winter and October feels great after a long hot summer.

October is usually a wonderful month. April on the other hand I do not like in northern MN. Those are beautiful pics "asitshouldbe", but I am guessing they were taken in Taylors Falls or even further south. Actually, I love MN and have been wanting to move further south along the Mississippi so that I can see those scenes in April and May. Every 10 years or so we do have an early spring north of Duluth. Anyway, when I am financially able I will go on a 3 month vacation - March, April, May - and usually in June the trees are green, my favorite color.

There is NO month in which it is better to be ANYWHERE ELSE but Minnesota. It is THE perfect place. The cold is cold and the hot is hot, the in between is just right. No where else in the lower 48 does it become so insanely cold in the winter and wonderfully warm in the summer. The Pine Forrests are some place to behold when it's nice out and scenically perfect when it isn't. We have 10,000 lakes to ensure that each one of us has somewhere to go and enjoy the Water in Summer and the Ice in winter.

This State is loaded with Perfect small towns sprinkled throughout each with it's own personality. The Twin Cities are large enough and cultural enough to satisfy even the biggest fanatics. Small towns, medium sized ones and the very small exist in utter tranquility.

Who could have even thought up a more perfect place?
