Looking for best place to camp with 3 year old and dog
Hello,
I am looking for a place to camp (tent) in a park that is not as busy as others. We will be going in the middle of the week, so I would like a place where there will not be many other campers, and have access to showers, swimming and fishing, canoe rental, and hiking. We would love to be isolated enough to just let the baby and dog run and play. We live near the city, but can travel any distance within MN. Any suggestions as to what would be my best bet? I am hoping to reserve the spot soon.
Thank You

We took my daughter to a state park along the gunflint trail that had a drive up camping spot, lake access (shallow and a beach), showers, and bathrooms. She had a blast. I'm not sure if they allow dogs in state parks-don't know for sure.
It's a great drive along the shore and plenty of stop off locations to hold interests and hiking access is easy along along the shore and even in the state park we camped at. I can't remeber it's name off hand.
Good luck!

Check the State Park site, the ones I've been to are pretty nice. Not sure if anywhere lets a dog run though although you could do a very long leash.
Baker Park in the Three Rivers Park district is also pretty nice and I suspect not super busy during the week, it has a lake, trails, nice shower building and some rentals. They're in a different area of the park but it's not too bad.

The state parks require dogs to be on a leash. We like camping at the park in New Ulm because if the weather is bad there are indoor things to do. Most of the state parks have electric camps and primitive camps. The electric sites are busier and closer together, the primitive ones have more room but are farther away from the showers, etc. too.

A couple state parks that I have driven through, not stayed at though that looked nice were McCarthy Park by Hibbing, and Scenic State park by Bigfork.

Minnesota camping
Bear Head State Park up by Tower is beautiful. There is a nice beach, beautiful campsites, new bathroom/shower buildings. Long drive, but you won't be disappointed.
