I still can't bash Jesse too much. I actually agree with his views on alot of issues. It isn't completely his fault that he couldn't get anything done while he was governor. It is kind of difficult to get people on board when you're the only member of your party in the entire state senate. I would consider a potential Dean Barkley/Jesse Ventura vote in 2010 if either of the two decided to run.

One thing Jesse proved to me is that if you want to vote other than DLR or Repulican, your vote is not wasted. I don't think he did a horrible job with his politics, but he did go overboard with the drama a few times. One thing for sure is you knew what he thought about stuff.

I am liberal on social issues, conservative on monetary issues. I hope to see a cantidate that can focus on improving how we do things more than advocating huge changes. It would be great to see less of the hard line stuff, but that is probably a pipe dream in politics. Arne Carlson was kind of that way, and they called him a RINO. To me that is not the worst thing in the world since I am not a true conservative.

We have a lot of great things here, I worry a bit that we are being too friendly in terms of entitlements and not friendly enough to business. Lets take care of people that need help, but not to the point where we draw those people in from other states. Lets not give business a free pass on taxes, but let's not make it painful for them to expand here. I really think it is a balancing act with this stuff. You have to keep an eye on the rest of the pack. If you get too far ahead or behind the pack, it creates behavior changing incentives that may not be good. Does anybody else wonder what effect having better entitlements does to our state? Seems to me if we draw people from other states, it must create a larger demmand for services and at some point errode what we can do for "our own" without increase in revenue. Not that black and white, but it is something to keep on the radar. Hopefully we are drawing people in for jobs as well, and that does seem to be the case. Lot easier to manage change when everything is growing at the same rate. Tough times like this throw a wrench in the whole thing.

I think we see eye to eye when it comes to politics. I'm the exact same, "socially liberal, fiscally conservative."

A Birdie told me that Tom Emmer (R) hopes to run.

Tom Emmer (R) 19B - Minnesota House of Representatives

He is for smaller government, less taxes, and has no problem upsetting a few along the way. If he gets any visibility, he will drive the left NUTS.

Oh, I'm sure Pat Anderson (Awada) will throw her name in the GOP ring. Could we please get some new blood in this state? I'm so tired of hearing from the same cast of characters. I'm gonna miss Tim. I have a lot of respect for him.

I really don't buy that Tim would have nationwide appeal for a presidency run (his smug, smarmy personality might have appeal to a number of MNans, but likely would p*** most of the rest of the country off)- but if the GOP is hurting that badly for candidates, then more power to them- Paw-Palin for president! (LOL)

No matter who runs on either ticket for the presidency, it will be a fairly close election. The other party will work as hard as they possibly can to make their constituents despise the other candidate by using as much slander as possible. Plan on politics as usual.

McCain was a hero but in my view he was positively inept. He was the best that the republicans could offer??? If McCain was able to attract these votes (See Map: Presidential Election Winners by County | Election 2008 | washingtonpost.com ) I'd bet TimPaw would go even farther. On the positive, it seems TimPaw has kept his nose clean. If Norm was honest, the race would not have been even close. I could not vote for the crook (I voted for Dean).

Pawlenty's chances suddenly look a little bit better now that Mark Sanford is out of the mix.

In the next year/ two, Pawlenty is going to be credited with doing to Minnesota what George W. Bush did for the country. I'm not sure what his current popularity rating is at, but plan on it going way down.
