Default So...tell me about Mankato!

Visited once in preparation for a move; I'll be there for 6 months for sure and am considering a permanent relocation. Though I have to admit, the possibility of a 9.7% state tax rate has me thinking twice.

How's the town for a single guy?

I'd say that if you are worried about the highest marginal tax rate of 9.7% then your prospects as a single guy look pretty good!

You get what you pay for with your state taxes-Minnesota has great schools, good roads, good services, a great park system, excellent medical care, etc., etc., etc. Having lived in states with low taxes I will GLADLY pay the higher taxes for the higher quality of life.

Now, as for Mankato, it is a nice size town with a pretty active night life because of the University. It hosts the summer training camp for the Minnesota Vikings and the bar action for a single guy then is pretty active. I like Mankato, it has everything you need yet it is an easy hop to Minneapolis/St. Paul.

Default Mankato

That depends - are you a 22 year old single guy, an 85 year old single guy, or somewhere in between?

I love Mankato by the way! I have a few favorite restaurants there (as I do everywhere, apparently). I really should be as big as a barge by now... Next time you're there, check out McGoff's and the Nile.

Robert

I've lived in the Mankato/North Mankato area all my life because I truly do love it here. The slogan for the greater Mankato area is "A little Twin Cities. A lot Minnesota." and it's true!

It's a regional shopping center and has almost every restaurant chain that the Minneapolis-St. Paul area has. The old shopping mall in downtown Mankato has several bars in it now, and along with additional bars in the immediate area, the entire area is hopping until 2am; the drawback being that they keep the local police quite busy at times.

In addition to having Vikings Training Camp July-August each year, the Great River Bicycle Festival returns June 23rd, Brewfest returns June 22-23 and Rib Fest will return in early August. All of these events take place in the downtown area. The Civic Center is located in the same area and brings in many national acts.

The quality of life in Mankato/North Mankato is excellent and opportunities abound for continuing growth in a beautiful area of the State!

I don't know if the Mankato Police Department maintains a crime map, but this might be a little helpful.

The Free Press, Mankato, MN - January/February/March 2009 crime map
