Default Anyone see New In Town

It was cute. I have never been to New Ulm but I think they may have over played the Mn accent thing a bit to far?

Not sure what "new in town" is, but I used to live in New Ulm and it is a very German city, where most of the MN accent comes from Scandinavian roots (i.e. Ole and Lena). Just like Fargo, they over do it just a bit...

New in Town is a movie starring Renee Zelweger that is based in New Ulm. It's basically your average 'girl from somewhere "normal" goes some weird "weird/cold", doesn't like it at first, then falls in love with a local and ends up living there' story. Complete with overblown accents.

I saw it. I thought that it made Minnesotans seem really abnormal.

Not filmed in Minnesota as New Ulm is a much nicer looking town than wherever it is that the film was shot, somewhere is Canada I think.

Nice movie. Whether or not it correctly portrayed Minnesotans, I don't know, but it showed them in a good light.

Don't know about the accents, either. They were different than the ones in Fargo. I used to think the movie Fargo took the accents a little too far (mostly based on what I read on websites like this), but then I actually went to Minnesota just to find that you guys really do sound like that.
No offense, I like the accent, but these movies aren't as far fetched as you might think.
Not everybody has a thick accent, just like everybody in the south doesn't sound like Boomhauer on King of the Hill... but some of them do.
Really.
I've known more than a few.
