Question possible move

hello all-

There is a possibilty my husband might be transferring to the Minneapolis area from Texas this summer. His office would be located in Golden Valley. After reading the threads posted and researching some housing it sounds like Lakeville, Apple Valley, Rosemount, and Eagan are all good places to start.

We have a 4 year old, 2 year old and are expecting our 3rd in September. The one thing I have not been able to find much information on through internet research is recommended preschools, pediatricians, obgyns, and local hospitals in these areas.

If anyone has heard any really good things on any of these topics I could use a good place to start.

Thanks for the help!

There are many quality preschools, doctors and clinics in the Twin Cities. Minnesota has a program called Early Childhood Family Education available to families with kids birth to kindergarten. They are designed as parenting classes with play time for the kids. They are GREAT for meeting people and being able to bounce parenting issues off other parents with kids the same age. They also have a preschool program available.

As for doctors, much of that will depend on what your health plan is so it is a little hard to recommend someone. I use the Parkview OB/GYN in Eagan and they are wonderful. I know many people that use them and also like them. For the kids we use the clinic at St. Paul Children's Hospital. It is kind of a hike but we have used the doctors there since our kids were babies.

THANKS!! I know that the best way to find out this kind of information is word of mouth and that gives me a good place to start.

Right now my son attends a two day a week program from 9-1 at the church we attend. I have been planning to send him 3 days a week from 9-1 for the 4 year old class in the fall. Have you heard through the grapevine any names of preschools that have this same kind of set up?

Also, is kindergarten half day or full day there?

Thanks again!!

There are a lot of preschools that have this set up or something similar. My kids are in middle school and high school and we are past the preschool stage so I am not current on what is available right now. Also, your search area for looking for a house is pretty large so until you find a place you probably want to wait on preschools so you can find one close to your house. If you find a house in the northern part of Eagan you aren't going to want to drive to south Lakeville to and from preschool.

Kindergarten here is full days in some schools and 1/2 days in others.
