Post Section 8 Housing Coming To Ramsey, Minnesota

It looks like the city officials of the city of Ramsey Minnesota are going to allow Section 8 housing in areas where people who pay $300k to $500k already have invested.

There are some city officials associated with MJB builders, (MJB is financially in trouble), where in order to get somewhat out of this burden, need federal $'s.

Many of the residents of this community are not aware of this, nor are they aware of local corruption going on.

There is still time to act and city officials need to hear about your opinions.

Can anyone substantiate this? Or, is this just a rumor?

My wife and I just (three days ago) purchased a new town home near the new, not yet finished, Ramsey Town Center... and this is the kind of thing I would like to know.

As long as a housing authority has jurisdiction over whatever land is in question, then people are allowed to use Section 8 housing vouchers in that area. In which case, whatever nonsense the OP is saying, is nonsense. Unless the OP is referring to housing projects being built, which could be then later funded under a type of Section 8 subsidy, but that's totally different from what people refer to as "section 8" 99.9% of the time.

I first heard about this about 2 years ago. I think section 8 is a wonderful program if done correctly. In my humble opinion, landlords should be held more accountable for their properties receiving section 8 benefits.

I've seen the good and bad of section 8 - and a little diligence goes a long way.

Landlords need the guidance of licensed property managers, only. These property managers will have licensed brokers who will know the procedures, policies, and statutes of the state (of Minnesota, specifically). It's tricky and not something to discuss casually.

OMG - it's a travesty!!! People are paying half a million dollars for a home that could be located within the same geographic area as someone using a housing subsidy! How could anyone let this happen without corruption being involved!?! Move now! Move now! Fly!! Fly away!!!!

This type of thing, not the fact that there are miles long waiting lists for lower-income families that need help paying the high rents in the Metro area so they can adequately provide clothes and food for their children and stay in general 'afloat', does really need to be broadcasted to the public.

If only there were places that existed that permanently banned any and all poorer people from living there (which there actually are a lot in this country, it might not be through explicit laws but close enough, and by the way, this post is meant to be very sarcastic in case there were folks that hadn't caught on to that yet).

The City of Ramsey has had more financial problems and developer corruption than any new community I've ever heard of. I'm sorry, but when you invest in real estate you take on risk - alot more when the community is not established yet. You certainly have more issues to worry about in your "investment" than a rumor that some of your future neighbors may be getting government assistance. For instance your town center is only half-finished and nobody wants to finish it...

I feel bad for you, but don't blame poor people for your situation.
