Default When does fall semester start in Minnesota?

I plan on taking a road trip through Minnesota the last week of August. Are the kiddies back in school by then?

No, at least not the public school students; by state law school in MN starts after Labor Day. They had talked about changing that, at least for this year, but I don't think it went anywhere.

Unless I'm mistaken, the Minneapolis public high schools are starting the week before labor day weekend this year. I'm not sure if that is the case for all Minnesota public schools.

Some school districts were allowed to start before Labor Day due to school construction schedules ( example---wanting to start construction earlier next spring)

My grand daughters ( 1 in rural MN and 1 in a metro suburb ) both start after Labor Day though.

Slig, you're right - my info wasn't up-to-date. They do start September 1 this year. That's unusual, though.

That it is. I've heard the administration is worried that alot of kids won't show up the first week because of planned family vacations.

----"through Minnesota--"

Minnesota is more than just Minneapolis, thus, most school kids you encounter traveling --through Minnesota-- will not be in school til after Labor Day.

If this was posted on the Minneapolis thread and you stated you were traveling thru Minneapolis , then it wouldn't hold true.

No-Duluth schools always start the thursday after Labor Day, for instance. And this year it is kept the same despite quite a bit of construction.

I think the larger point is that what is typically a state-mandated position (i.e. no schools can start until after Labor Day) is not as universal this year. Many schools will not be in session, but a few districts - Minneapolis being one of them, but there may be others outside of the Twin Cities, too - may have received permission to start earlier.
