Default Minnesota State Parks Geocaching Wildlife Safari

For those interested and able to do so if checking out any State Park in Minnesota be sure to ask at the ranger station about the Wildlife Safari being offered as a program to introduce geocaching and create an interest in the State Parks.

To participate in this activity all that is needed is a gps unit, and if you dont have one, they are available at the front desk for using on the condition they are returned of course.

In each situation there will be usually more than two parts to finding the "finale stage" known as a multi cache. Dont worry these are set up for not to be difficult and can be easily accomplished by just about anyone.

Inside the final "cache" will be a log book to sign your name and a "critter card" for you to keep and collect. Visiting all the State Parks in the state will earn you an reward.

This program will end for the year sometime in the fall so there is a little time still left. This is a great way to spend some time in the State Parks.

Thanks and hope you all have fun if attempting

I saw this posted on a board when we were in New Ulm camping last month. It sounded like fun for the little kids, and not so little kids. We didn't do the geochaching but maybe next year.

The reward is a "big deal" in caching circles. As the sport is known world wide there are many different levels, competitions, events and gatherings for all to experience.

Minnesota State Parks Geocaching Wildlife Safari: Minnesota DNR

Geocaching is exciting, period. For example in a particular State Park ( Gooseberry Falls State Park ) the stages may lead the cacher to places in the park they have never been to before.

For about five dollars for day use one is able to visit State Parks all day long from one to another.

Once on a Sunday I racked up many miles and ended going to six different parks, in Minnesota. Wow was I tired after that road trip, having many miles left to drive to return home after dark.

By the way what is a nerd badge? I have never heard of that before.

The park itself is my focus, and trinkets and GPS seems like a rather geeky diversion. Amazing to see a situation where batteries are required to enjoy a park. How ironic is that?

I guess it's your way or the highway. So people are only able to enjoy the park your way?

Nobody said batteries are required to enjoy a park.

If people enjoy it, then that is fine. I just find it odd.
