Moving to Bemidji from Virginia...Please help! (apartments, rental)

Hello everyone,

I am 23, just got my first undergrad degree, and am moving to Bemidji to pursue my second undergrad degree. I know that sounds crazy, but there is a method to my madness. I am having trouble finding an apartment from thousands of miles away. I have tried rentinbemidji.com, bemidjipioneer.com classifieds, and BSU's off campus housing board. I am trying to move in mid-July and still have not found a place. I was also wondering what cellphone service works best up there so I can switch over, and about how much cable and internet cost up there. It is not easy moving from states away, especially when I can't really afford to fly up there just to find an apartment before I move (it costs around $500 round trip from here). I also have a cat that will be coming with me, which is apparently a problem for many rental companies and landlords up there from what I've seen. If anyone has any advice on how I can find a decent 1 bedroom apartment or efficiency that has heat included and allows one small spayed female cat that does not have any destructive habits, please let me know! I am starting to cut it close as far as my timeline is supposed to be going. Thanks!

I too am moving to Bemidji later this summer (from Maryland) and have been subscribing to the Bemidji Pioneer's online newspaper. You might try that (about $12/mo) so you can see personal ads about apts for rent. Here are a few posted in Sunday's paper (5/27):

I love Bemidji. I can't help you with apartments but I love the area. My Dad grew up there and we spent many vacations visiting Grandparents there. It is just beautiful (but really cold in the winter).
