Woodbury had a huge housing boom in the late 1990's. There are many houses in that area that are 2 story single family homes. Newer construction there might be a bit outside of your price range but you should be able to find something that was built in the last 15 years in that range.
The schools are ok. Woodbury is probably my least favorite suburb--just a personal preference. If you want to be on that side of the cities, Mahtomedi has the best schools over there and is only a couple miles from Woodbury.

Thank you, Golfgal.I checked the listing houses and prices in Mahtomedi, which are beyond my budget. It looks like that SFH in woodbury is much cheaper. Can you tell me why your personal perference is in Mahtomedi? Also, do you think Woodbury is a safe surburb?Do you have more schools information? Thanks again.

Mahtomedi schools are very good. They consistently score very high on state testing. It is a pretty affluent area so there is a pretty big emphasis on education.
Woodbury is ok. I just don't like the area personally. I don't even know if it is something tangible but it is just the feeling I get when I am there. The schools are ok. They aren't bad and are probably better then most in other areas of the country there are just better choices on that side of the cities.
In the Twin Cities about the only outer ring suburb (outside of the 494-694 loop) that has a reputation for not being safe is up in Brooklyn Park area. You really don't have to worry about 'safe' in any of the suburbs around here.

Woodbury schools are awesome!
Hi,
I have to give my opinion here. We've lived in Woodbury for 17 years and I have been a teacher in four school districts. Woodbury is by far the best. I've never worked with a more dedicated group of teachers who care more about the children they teach. We raised three children here and they all had a very positive experience. There was only one area that was a bit lacking and that was high school math but we've heard very good things about progress in that area with the new high school being built.
The city of Woodbury is a fantastic place to raise a family. It is very safe. (I go for walks alone all the time at night.) The churches are fantastic and add to the sense of community. I'm so thankful that we moved here!!

I grew up in Stillwater, a suburb very close to Woodbury. Woodbury does have good schools, and honestly MN in general has good schools. I have to say though, I agree that Woodbury is also one of my least favorite suburbs. It has no character what soever and everything there is a chain. If Mahtomedi is too expensive for what you are looking for, Stillwater probably is as well, but I would say it is FOR SURE worth it to get an older house and live in a great area. As far as appreciating, it is all about location. And People LOVE Stillwater. I would highly recommend looking into living there (Stillwater has GREAT public schools as well).

There is a fair selection of two story homes built 2000 or later for sale in Woodbury. It is definitely possible to find a nice home for under $350,000.

Thanks so much for all your comments/suggestions.It looks like it is a little bit hard to get a deal on existing house,so we might buy a lot from a builder and then ask builder to build a house although we know we need increase our budget.
Could you please let me know where can find feedback of builder's reputation? Such as Chase, Keyland, etc?Any specific attentions on building a house? Thanks again.

What about Cottage Grove
We just bought a brand new 2700 square foot home for under $350. It is really close to Woodbury. Across the street from the elementary school. The taxes are really low too.

You can get way more house in CG than in Woodbury, but you don't have all the retail that you have in Woodbury. Woodbury has shops and a walmart and more. I have houses in both and I like the woodbury area more but I like the CG house price better. They are only 10 min away. Woodbury housing market has not declined as much as cottage grove and other subs. I guess depends if want a nicer house or nicer area. As the market grows CG will develop more retail to drive the area through. Taxes are chearper in CG also.
Thanks Dale
