It just said in the local newspaper that Montevideo has over 1000 Hispanics now which has dramtically increased from its about 150 in 2000 I am wondering why the hispanic population is growing so fast in Montevideo?

Wow, that is a large hispanic population. 1,000 would make about 20% of the Montivideo population. Im assuming there is a large food processing facility in the area that would be atracting to new immigrants. Here in Marshall we have a nice sized hispanic population because of the Turkey plant here (not quite as many as you say are in Montivedeo), some get jobs elsewhere and even open their own businesses which is a great thing for a community (as long as they know english if your going to shop there). I have noticed that many of their houses are not as well kept though, which may be a cultural thing? Not seem racest or anything, just my observation. But generally very kind people.

Wow, that does not bode well for the community of Montevideo. We dont see that kind of crime in Marshall, and its more than twice the size of Monte.

as far as I am concerned, the people here are rude and very unfriendly. We are a military family who just moved here 2 months ago, we are trying to meet people but are having a hard time doing it. Every place of business we have been into we have had nothing but problems with people, what's the deal?

I am a local "Schwan's man" in Monte and spend two days
every two weeks there. I have been doing this for about a year and a half and my job may help me but I definitely find
this to be the most friendly and most comfortable town for me to work in. I work in a few towns in Kandi county and
a few in Renville/Sibley/Nicolette and just dont seem to have
that same feeling or have made as many relationships with
my customers. I am actually seriously considering moving there some time next year to be in a bigger town since we just moved here about 2 years ago from Connecticut to a very
small town and just dont seem to have made any "friends" at
all. Small towns seem to not be very welcoming to outsiders as most people are either related or have known each other since birth and you will never be any of those.
