Default Housing Options/Living in Shoreview or Roseville

Hi,

Please share your opinions on housing markets including rentals in these two areas. I am interviewing with both Ramsey County and the University of Minnesota but have been unsuccessful in finding housing options via the Internet.

I have 2 special needs children and want a community that has a lot to offer as far as activities.

Thanks,
"Lee"

They are ok schools/communities. There are better options close by (Mahtomedi for one). As for your special needs kids it depends on what their needs are. Minnesota in general has very good programing for special needs kids.

My kids are both ADHD and were in the Roseville school district. They received the special care they needed; even before I realized that they could get help (we'd moved to the area from South Minneapolis, and the MPLS school district wasn't able to accommodate their needs since our kids weren't 2 grade levels behind). Shoreview doesn't have it's own school district; most of the city is in the Moundsview school district but the southern end is in the Roseville school district.

Shoreview and Roseville both have very good activity programs for kids and adults; both have community centers (Shoreview's is newer and has a great waterpark/pool) but both have great rec programs too.

Roseville is probably a bit cheaper for housing than Shoreview since it is an older suburb.

For special needs, either Moundsview schools (Shoreview and some of Roseville) and Roseville are great. My nephew is Autistic and Moundsview schools are great for him. Roseville and Falcon Heights are right near U. of M. Southern Shoreview is great, too. We live in both Roseville and Southern Shoreview and you can get anywhere in the twin cities quickly from there.
