I'm looking for a town within 45 minutes of, basically, the Mall of America. How is Faribault (crime, cleanliness, schools, etc)?

Looking for small town, inexpensive living that's not crime ridden (am I dreaming?).

Thanks!

Faribault is ok. It is getting better as more people choose to live there and commute to the twin cities. The schools are not bad but there are better choices. How large of a town will you consider.

Default Size of town

I'm thinking 50,000 or less. The less the better.

Try Rosemount, 20,000 people, great schools, about 15-20 minute commute to MOA. Many of the suburbs are less then 50,000 people. I guess when I think small town I think 10,000 or less. Crime is basically nothing. Small town feel, downtown area, friendly people, etc.

If you are willing to commute farther, from that direction Northfield would be a much better choice then Faribault but then it would be a 45 minute commute.

Mendota Heights is convenient but EXPENSIVE.

Northfield is a very, very nice town but housing is very expensive.

Hastings, Lakeville, Farmington, Cottage Grove are other options.

I've sold a bunch of homes in Farmington - and those folks seem to like it quite a bit. Most work in Minneapolis, and their commute is about 30-35minutes. You're probably looking at 20-25 minutes to the MOA.

BTW - Nordstrom's cafe has excellent tea these days.

I have been in Bloomington for 5 years and crime is not a problem here. Expensive though. You can rent a 3 bedroom house for 2,5000. It seems like every other house in Bloomington is up for sale.
